"Unexpectedly bland. Made exactly as per recipe no omissions or subs. Even well seasoned it was bland. The addition of mango chutney at service helped. However the basics are strong and the underlying flavours good. Nice mixture of textures too. I will repeat this using good veg stock instead of water and adding a teaspoon of sugar I think. I will also add more chilli and use hot paprika as I like more heat than this delivers. "

"Made this for Easter lunch. Did it exactly as the recipe says, utterly delicious. Served with single cream. May try soaking the fruit in brandy rather than juice if I do this again. It would also work as a lighter desser at Christmas which I may well do as we're not great fans of Christmas pudding. "

"Made exactly as per recipe. Dough was too wet to work so I added a little more flour. Baked for an extra 10 minutes too. Finished loaf was WAY TOO SALTY. Excessive. Almost inedible. The texture was excellent though. I would make it again but omit the salt completely, the bicarb makes it salty enough."

"Outstanding. I made this as the veggie option for a dinner party and all the carnivores were clamouring over it. I did the cheat version of the pastry - delicious."

"Austerity measures so I substituted the dulce de leche with stores own brand toffee sauce and used value chocolate rather than the good stuff. Results were great. Total cost was under £3!"
