"@Shevy - good advice... About 12 years ago, my mum was boiling a tin of condensed milk for a banoffee pie. She went off to dry her hair and forgot about the water level. Needless to say, it boiled dry and did indeed explode! You would not believe the mess. The pan literally jumped up too and landed on the work surface, burning a hole in it. The caramel went 2 metres in every direction - it took hours to get it off the ceiling! And this would be far worse if anyone had been in the kitchen at the time. Hot caramel & bare skin = nasty burns. You've been warned! (I don't bother boiling tins myself)."
