Potato, Leek and Bacon soup

"I make soups weekly for my family and last week made this recipe. disaster!! can someone tell me what went wrong, I followed the recipe and all seemed fine, tasted wonderful. The following day when I went to reheat, the soup appeared to have fermented and separated with a foamy top of about three inches ! and tasted bitter. All the ingredients I used were fresh. Please help. "
