"We loved this! I reduced quantities and cooked for 4, using chicken legs from the butcher, cut into drumsticks and thighs. We didn't have dumplings and were feeling idle, so we dropped some gnocchi (from supermarket) in for the last 10 minutes of the casserole cooking time and it worked well."

Slow-cooked lamb with onions & thyme

"We used the conventional oven temp, but reduced the onions to about half-quantity. After 1 hour, added (raw) carrots and turnips, chopped to about 1" cubes. Then carried on cooking for about 1 1/2 hours until ready to roast pots and parsnips, leaving all in for another hour. Kept lamb etc warm while I boosted oven temp to crisp pots a bit. Served with broccoli. Definitely on the future menu list."

"Roast chicken was planned so I decided a simple variation would be great! Changed the veg according to what we had available and adjusted times a bit as the chicken was 2 kg. I used potatoes, parsnip (no turnips) and wedged onion (from the garden) but kept the carrot back until the last 30 minutes as they were very fine (they cooked well but didn't frazzle). We had some asparagus so I dropped them in, with the stock, for the last 10 minutes, instead of the peas; if you try this, make sure that they are settled in to the stock well. Chipolata sausage roasted in honey for 30 minutes went well with the dish. Oh, and NO marmite - don't like it so it doesn't live in our store cupboard"

"Excellent recipe - we cooked full quantity for the 2 of us and froze half. I heated it through after defrosting and it tasted equally good 2nd time around ;-) Hubbie has declared it is now added to our family regulars!"

"Just starting to REALLY brown things like the TV chefs and the chicken was crisp at the start. The skin was soft by end of the cooking, but certainly not unpalatable. Used the full 200g cream cheese and it was rich, but nicely so; will try the other suggestions here about creme fraiche and low fat (and less) cream cheese. This will be a favourite!"
