The pH factor

How can you tell whether what you’re consuming is acid or alkaline? Simply check this pH scale – you may be surprised by what it reveals!

The acidity or alkalinity level of food and drink can be measured on a pH scale, which runs from 0 to 14 – 0 being the most acidic and 14 being the most alkaline. Pure water has a neutral value of pH 7, as does milk. Many fruit and vegetables fall into the acidic category, as do many fizzy drinks and soft drinks. Look at the table below to see for yourself and read on for ways to help protect your teeth from damage that may be caused by acids in foods and drinks.
