Method

  1. Heat the oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4. Put the flour, cocoa, chocolate and caster sugar in a bowl. Mix together the butter, egg, milk, orange zest and stir into the dry ingredients. Divide the mix between 6 small ovenproof dishes (about 250ml each).
  2. For the sauce, mix the sugar and cocoa, then divide between the tops of the puds. Boil a kettle and pour approx 3 tbsp boiling water over each pud. Bake for 25 minutes. You will end up with sponge on top and choc sauce underneath.
  3. Finish with a dollop of crème fraîche and extra orange zest if you like.

Wonderful pudding. I wasn't convinced that the three table spoons of water floating on the top would make it to the bottom, but it did. Yummie chocolate top and lovely saucy bit on the bottom. First time I made it was for Mum and Dad's Anniversary Meal. Thought Mum was forgiving enough if it did't turn out as expected. I worried for nothing. Having a Dinner Party next weekend, so its back on the menu. The only thing I did different was grate the chocolate. I wasn't sure that chopping it would make it mix ok. I would be interested in other comments if somebody does only chop the chocolate

I really can't work out how or where this went wrong...but it really did! I followed the recipe to the letter but the puddings exploded in the oven, there was no chocolately sauce underneath and they were burned on top...very disappointing!

I have made this pudding twice and it has been really good. I melted the chocolate in the microwave and then mixed it in. Everyone who has tried it wants the recipe, it has been a big hit.

Not great in my opinion, mine also had mini-explosions and were too cake like.

Made this for a kids' dessert when going to friends for lunch and did it in one large dish cooking for about 35 minutes. Though it was really scrummy, it was quite rich for them. I might try adapting it using chocolate orange instead of dark chocolate and incorporating the juice from the oranges with water for the sauce. I also thought that light soft brown sugar would give a softer flavour. We'll just have to practice it a few times!

Cooked this as a dessert for an early Mother's Day dinner, went down a treat. I halved the recipe for 3 ramekins, but it filled 4 nicely. Lovely gooey centre, great orange flavour, wasn't too cake-like, didnt explode out of the ramekin. Was very worried about how it would turn out on my first attempt but it could not have gone better

My sister made these for mother's day, using Lindt 70%, and they were delicious! Some of them did overflow the ramekins in a sort of Vesuvius effect, but that would probably be solved by using bigger ramekins. Really nice recipe.

Tried this recipe last weekend, for a party with friends, using bourneville dark choc, absolutely brilliant, all agreed that it was about the best home made desert they'd ever tasted. I did half of the puddings with boiling water at step 2, and the other half with freshly squeezed juice from the zested oranges (microwaved to heat up). I personnaly preferred the juiced puddings, they were amazing, they had a real citrus kick, but they may be a bit too sharp for kids. This one will go down as a major success, and will def be on repeat. Just don't think too much about the sugar that's going in there......

Made this to the exact recipe and it turned out fine. I found it to be quite a rich heavy pudding but managed to finish it!

Made this twice now and worked perfectly both times. Absolutely delicious! Only problem is I never seem to make enough as they always get eaten far too quickly!! I tend to have enough mixture to make 8 or 10 but maybe I just have smaller ramekins!

Quite rich but delicious. Dinner guests wouldn't believe it was home-made and insisted I must have bought it from the shops!

Delicious! I used 200ml dishes and half filled them so they were perfect. Very indulgent - smaller dishes would be the sensible answer but, hey, these are good!

I used regular casting sugar instead, and they were amazing!! Went down extremely well with everyone. Quite rich, but probably because my ramekins are too big!
