  Oh my god, this was sssooo tasty, the meat fell apart. I'm just starting out on this cooking thingy so this was quite adventurous for me and it turned out brilliant. The only change I made was to use puff pastry instead. You know when your eating food that tastes so good, you really should stop because you'll pay for it in 30 minutes time with eyes to big for the belly syndrome. Just, throw it out the window, because the pie tastes that good, every mouthful is like the first and you just have to have another one.

  Very easy to make, with great flavours. Make sure you use a nice red wine, not just plonk! Good comfort food!!

  Delicious beef and the gravy was amazing for so little ingredients (I didn't use the thyme). It does need a long cook to soften the beef. I served it with a basic buttery mash and it let the flavour shine through.

  Usually buy a pie from my local farm shop,but decided to try making one myself. Boyfriend,kids and future mum in law were v impressed and i was chuffed with how it turned out.I'm not a confident cook but the method was really simple to follow. The meat just melted in yor mouth. Will definitely make again !!!

  I was kinda disppointed in this pie I felt it was lacking something possibly some beef stock, I would make again but adding some beef stock and thickening the sauce more.

  Very tasty. I just popped all the raw ingredients into my slow cooker and let is cook on low for the day. I then removed the meat and mushrooms etc to the pie dish, reduced the sauce a little and then poured it over and added the pastry. Cooked it for 25 mins. Lovely. I also added a beef stock cude to meaty it up.

  Has anybody done this recipe with Ale? The gastro pubs usually serve a delicious Steak n Ale pie but I have never been able to replicate one myself - according to my hubbie!!!

  I made this last night as a treat for my pie-fanatic boyfriend. He said it was one of the best meals he's ever had! I did change it quite a bit however - left out the mushrooms, added 1/2 a beef stock cube and made a shortcrust pastry base and and a puff pastry lid. The meat was tender and really flavoursome although I would advise adding a bit more wine as it really did reduce down to leave only just enough gravy for the pie filling and it would have been nice to have some left over to pour on the mash! Definitely one to try.

  Delicious! The red wine made the sauce taste really rich and flavoursome but wasn't overpowering, and the meat came up so tender. I shared the pie with my housemate who normally can't stand mushrooms but who said it was really nice, and the house smelt gorgeous whilst it was cooking!

  made this pie for dinner ,easy to make , but I used puff pastry, hubbie loved the pie , but the red wine was a bit to much for me, will use less next time , also will make into one large pie dish, I think it will be better to serve, over all, very nice and warming on a cold day
