  Ive had a bottle of Mirin winking at me on my kitchen shelf for sometime now and Ive been hoping to find another recipe so i can use it. I would also like to add red & yellow peppers to this cut into strips, and Mange Tout to bulk it up a bit as im going to cook this for my fella on Sat night. I'm thinking also of doubling the sauce as im adding extras (Peppers etc). I was thinking of gently frying the peppers a tiny bit in a flavourless oil such as Groundnut, so they are a tiny bit soft but still al dente. I will then add the peppers to the sauce at the adding onions stage. I'm going to add the Mange Tout at the steak stage, as its so easy to overcook them if not careful. I hope doubling the sauce will be OK, i wont need all of it probably, but i don't want it to dry out what with the extra veg. Ive never cooked Japanese before so im really looking forward to this.

  I did't get the steak as brown as on the picture but anyway it was a tasteful experience. Nice Oriental dish

  Very easy - I could not get pickled ginger, so used fresh. I added some ginger and chilli to the cooking liquid and then followed the recipe as above. Tasty and healthy.....

  This was very nice and easy, never used mirin before but definitely gives it a sweet authentic flavour. I didn't have pickled ginger so chopped up some instead and put it in with the beef when it was cooking, which gave it a nice warmth since I don't like chillis.

  Fantastic and so easy to make. I made a double quantity and added one finely sliced red pepper when adding the onion. I didnt have any pickled ginger and I think it turned out fine!

  One of my favourite meals. The sauce is very runny so make sure not to use it all else the rice goes very soggy. if you dish it up without liquid then pour a spoon over each plate it works great.

  Really tasty, easy recipe. Added a pepper and sugar snap peas, used Sherry as couldn't find mirin and used fresh ginger which was added with the meat. Delicious!

  didnt have mirin but said i would try it anyway :) fab! heated a saucepan and browned the onions and steak before adding. also added some tomatoe puree, worchester sauce, bit of nutmeg (becuase i wanted to) and some beef stock/gravy granules. Yummy! I know it wasnt technically therefore a mirin dish but... didnt like the ginger. served it sugar snap peas and baby corn, and brown rice.

  Absolutely fantastic recipe. This is my standby for unexpected visitors as it is so quick. Don't be tempted to use ordinary Ginger, it's the pickled Ginger that gives the fantastic flavour. I always thicken mine slightly with Arrowroot. Delicious with noodles stir fried in a little Sesame Oil Fantastic fresh flavours and low fat too!

  Followed recipe exactly (ish) .... Initially had difficulty in sourcing Miran but eventually found some in large supermarket chain in the Oriental aisles .. relief as I'd already bought all the other ingredients I also changed the suggested steak to ribeye steak as this cut of meat is very tender and cooks in a flash, ideal for this recipe The dinner was delish served with steamed plain basmati. I think my next attempt will include a handful of bean sprouts, water chestnuts or peppers .. Not that this recipe needs tweeking
