Method

  1. Butter a 2-litre baking dish and heat oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4. Put the kettle on. Put the flour, caster sugar, 50g cocoa, baking powder, orange zest and a pinch of salt in a large mixing bowl. Whisk together the orange juice and any pulp left in the juicer, the eggs, melted butter and milk, then pour onto the dry ingredients and mix together until smooth. Stir in the chocolate chunks and scrape everything into the baking dish.
  2. Mix 300ml boiling water from the kettle with the sugar and cocoa for the sauce, then pour this all over the pudding batter - don't worry, it will look very strange at this stage! Bake on the middle shelf of the oven for 30 mins until the surface looks firm, risen and crisp. As you scoop spoonfuls into serving bowls, you should find a glossy, rich chocolate sauce underneath the sponge. Eat immediately with vanilla ice cream or single cream.

Made this at the weekend and was a huge hit, just a bit too much for us which was dangerous as I kept going back for more (extra hour on the Wii, that night!!!) Kids thought it was amazing how it was 'breathing' when it came out of the oven!

O.M.G. Heaven in a dish! Both my husband and I are on a diet so I halved the recipe and baked it for 15-20 minutes for the kids, who LOVED it! I had to have a taste (in the interest of a fair review!) and it was fabulous! A lovely treat, and so easy to make.

Me oh my! This pud is just seriously good! I made this for a dinner party and it was a massive hit. Very easy to make, really orangey and deliciously chocolatey - a crunchy top but also cleverly saucy! I used a really big orange... the more orangey the better in my opinion.

Very nice, kids and adults loved it alike. Very rich but this is more than likely as I used 100g dark lindt 70% chocolate and no orange juice or zest. Would definately used this recipe over an old womans weekly favourite one.

Truly scrumptious! So easy to throw together. Don't panic if you think you've done it wrong when it looks a bit odd - you haven't! All the magic happens in the oven. Will be making again and again.

Really good recipe though can be too watery underneath - I may add less boiling water next time. I added extra chopped white chocolate and milk chocolate to increase the chocolateyness!!

I halved quantities (but made with 2 eggs) as well to serve less people. Was very tasty - would use extra orange zest next time as I didn't think it was as orangey as it could be.

I haven't made this yet but want to do it for a 'Come dine with me' style dinner party and wondered if it would work in individual ramakin dishes? Can anyone help? Has anyone else done this?

The children loved this, however, although I love chocolate I found it too sweet and a bit stodgy. As self saucing puds go - I much prefer the lemon self saucing one on this site - it's light and fluffy and much nicer than this.

made this last night and it worked very well. Doesn't look to good going into the oven but came out just like the picture. Very tasty although next time I think I will use more orange.

AMAZING I couldn't find orange chocolate so used milk chocolate instead but you could still taste orange from the zest and juice. I also made ahead to stage 1 and then just finished it off when we were ready for dessert.
