For the sauce

  • 200g light muscovado sugar
  • 25g cocoa

Method

  1. Butter a 2-litre baking dish and heat oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4. Put the kettle on. Put the flour, caster sugar, 50g cocoa, baking powder, orange zest and a pinch of salt in a large mixing bowl. Whisk together the orange juice and any pulp left in the juicer, the eggs, melted butter and milk, then pour onto the dry ingredients and mix together until smooth. Stir in the chocolate chunks and scrape everything into the baking dish.

  2. Mix 300ml boiling water from the kettle with the sugar and cocoa for the sauce, then pour this all over the pudding batter – don’t worry, it will look very strange at this stage! Bake on the middle shelf of the oven for 30 mins until the surface looks firm, risen and crisp. As you scoop spoonfuls into serving bowls, you should find a glossy, rich chocolate sauce underneath the sponge. Eat immediately with vanilla ice cream or single cream.

This was deeeeeelicious! I made this for a valentines dinner. I personally think it is very rich and you don't need alot of it, but it is so easy to make and very yummy!

This was sooo easy And sooo Very tasty, even though i forgot to add the cocoa and muscavado sugar to the water (too much on the mind) it didn't seem to affect it!
I halved the ingredients and the two of us ate it all up with lovely thick double cream - valentines night (indulgence is aloud) :-)

in a word...... WOW!!!! didn't have any orange chocolate, so just used plain milk chocolate. hubby was very impressed and i will definatly be making this again

Cut the recipe down to 2/3 and it wasn't cooked! No idea why as my oven tends to cook on the hot side. Put it in the microwave for a couple of minutes and it seemed OK. It tasted amazing, almost too rich though. Will try again and leave in the oven for another 5 minutes. It was nice but too rich for my liking, friends enjoyed it but the lemon self saucing pudding on here is much nicer after a main meal.

Amazing. I served with creme fraiche, which was yummy. Didn't have orange chocolate to hand, so doubled the amount of orange juice/zest. Worked well. Just had leftovers fro breakfast!

Yummy recipe! I found it made enough for 10 people and although there didn't seem so much sauce the following day, it was still really good and suitable to serve again. I added the orange juice and zest but used milk chocolate chunks as couldn't find any milk orange chocolate and it still tasted very orangey!

Hi, this looks really good and i hoping to make it for 20 people so i'll be doubling it. Has anyone made a bigger portion than this? if yes then how much longer would i need to cook it for or is it just easier to make two?

Pure indulgence! Made it when we had both sets of parents over for dinner. Went down a storm! Used Terry's choc orange and served with ice cream. Alternative dessert, lemon cheesecake, barely got a look in...

i made this and because i was running late when i came in from work,i did it in the microwave and it was delicious it came out with the sauce on the bottom,the only thing missing was the slight crispness on the top of the sponge but nevertheless it was still delicious.

Lovely! Made for a dinner party for 4 and was a massive hit! Did step 1 through the day and left the batter in the mixer. did step 2 just as the guests arrived so was ready just as we finished our main course! Will definately be making again. Plenty of left overs and just as nice the next day!!

AMAZING I couldn't find orange chocolate so used milk chocolate instead but you could still taste orange from the zest and juice. I also made ahead to stage 1 and then just finished it off when we were ready for dessert.

made this last night and it worked very well. Doesn't look to good going into the oven but came out just like the picture. Very tasty although next time I think I will use more orange.

I made this for a family dinner and it was very well received! It's easy to make and is so moist and sticky which was a real treat. An incredibly versatile and easy cake to make, I'll be sure to make again and again :)
