  Was intrigued by the idea of cooking the components separately. I can report that it does work and you end up with very crisp crumble. Particularly good if you want to prep ahead as you simply combine the two just before you want to serve, then heat through.

  This is a great recipe. Doing the crumble topping separately really works. We mixed the ingrediants in the fod processor though which is much easier. Really tasty!

  Just to add - we used another apple and more blackberries as the stated weights wouldn't have made enough for our large appetites!

  Wanted something seasonal ( autumn ) for an informal supper for four and this one hit the spot - absolutely delicious and didnt change a thing. Although it didnt look like when preparing it was enough for four. Superb crunch to the topping and a great recipe for preparing ahead. Its a must try recipe as once you do you will make it again and again.We all loved it.. !

  Made this twice now. Very tasty. I think next time I would leave the crumble mixture cook for 10 rather than the full 15 mins, I found it a tad overdone on the edges on both occasions.

  Mmmm, this was lovely! I like the idea of cooking it seperately as it was a lovely crunchy topping. The apple could have done with a touch longer to soften it and I added a splash of brandy to the compote too :) Very quick and easy. I did a (just over) half portion for MrS and I and it was just the right size - but we have also had the 'Bumpkin's fish pie' tonight so feeling pretty full and contented!

  Just made this for my flat mates and I! Seems to be a hit! I added an extra apple and some extra blackberries. I think next time I'll leave them to simmer and breakdown a bit more. Also thinking of adding some oats to the crumble mix. Great recipe, will definitely make again

  I am not good at making puddings and 'crumble' is usually the best I can do. This was abit different and was worth the extra effort. ( We had spent a few days picking some blackberries along the local canal in September and froze the little we gathered.) The final result was worth the effort. Cooking the crumble in the oven then adding to the pureed fruit was well worth the difference. (I usually cook the lot together) The puree of fruit was delicious. The crumble was excellent and no where as soft as my usual finished dish. (Although I do like soft crumble!).

  I prepared this one for christmas as an alternative to the christmas pud and everyone was delighted by this meal. It has such a nice and tasty sweet flavour coming from the topping which plays perfectly with the fruity, sour flavour of the apple and berries. It is really easy to prepare, also for beginners.

  Very tasty, especially the fruit. Didn't quite fill the dish I was using so next time will add another apple and some more blackberries. Really easy to make though.

  Simple and delicious! I've never cooked the crumble and fruit separately before but will definitely do it this way from now on. I added some oats to the crumble mixture and the end result went down a treat with the entire family.

  Really enjoyed making this cooking the crumble seperate did make a crisp crumble, did take the advice of others who have made this and only cooked the crumble for 12 minutes and then it started to brown on the edges. great idea if you want to prep ahead. It was that easy to make and yummy decided to make another this morning and let my little girl help me she had lots of fun making the crumble, this is family favourite in my house.
