Method

  1. Ask a grown-up to turn the oven on to 200C/180C fan/ gas 6. Sit each apple on the worktop and push the apple corer into the centre of each one (or ask a grown-up to do this for you).
  2. Mix the sultanas, muscovado sugar and cinnamon together in a bowl.
  3. Stand up the apples, side by side, in a baking dish. Using your fingers, push a little bit of the sultana mixture into each apple, using up all the mixture between them.
  4. Add a blob of butter to the top of each and sprinkle over the demerara sugar. Ask a grown-up to put the dish in the oven for 20 mins or until the apples are cooked through.

Top tip for parents

Your child may be able to do their own coring, but make sure they are high up enough against the work surface so they can push firmly down on the corer. You can easily change the stuffing for the apples - chopped dried apricots work well instead of sultanas, and flaked almonds or chopped hazelnuts will add crunch.

I made this recipe with my 6 year old son and he really enjoyed it. We added chopped hazelnuts to the sultanas, cinnamon and sugar and it really made it incredibly delicious. Served with custard it was warm, sweet, crunchy and yummy! My son now wants to make this desert again to share with family and friends.

Really simple and delicious recipe. Didn't have any sultanas so improvised the mixture with some dried, sweetened cranberries, honey and cinnamon. Would certainly recommend!

I only found this recipe as a check on oven temp and cooking time. In essence I luckily had put it together with odds and ends in the cupboard. So I didn't follow this recipe, however Apple check, sultanas check, sugar check, cinnamon check, But Added: lemon curd into the mix. My six year old & 16month old loved it with ice cream. Will be doing this again.

Nice treat - I used Braeburn apples but had to cook for a bit longer than suggested. Loved the cinnamon, sugar, raisin combo. Served it with the Quick Banana Ice Cream. Yum!
