  This recipe is very highly calorific, therefore not suitable for someone like me who is watching their weight. Can I recommend "Braised chicken with beans" (http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/5733/images/5733_MEDIUM.jpg) which is delicious and less than half the calories.

  I thought this looked really tasted and then I saw the comment made above!!!! I would not bother with the frying first of all and would remove the skin as well. Cutting out the olive oil and the fat on the chicken would reduce the calorie content. You could even fry the chorizo and until all the fat runs out and remove that as well?????

  But removing the fat from the chorizo kind of defeats the purpose. Chorizo is used for its amazingly tasty oils due to all the lipid-soluble spices and herbs used to make it.

  I might try substituting the chorizo for bacon to cut down on the fat a bit. Bacon makes everything taste gooood!

  i cooked this today it was good, i did add some mushrooms, i like the chorize i had it with butter beans and fish, but with chicken it was nice, but my husband said it would be better with out the bones in it

  I reduced the caloreis in this dish by pouring off the fat after browning the chicken pieces as iff you discard after cooking the chorizo you lose most of the flavour. My family enjoyed this and my picky 19 year ol said it was 'awsome' with three of his favourite things; crispy chicken skin, chorizo and 'those things that are like chickpeas' (butterbeans!) high praise indeed :0)

  This was absolutely delicious! I had read the comments about the calories and did not use any olive oil (not necessary when cooking the chicken thighs skin side down). I also drained the fat off when removing the chicken and after adding the onions, deglazed the pan with some wine. I could not get hold of cooking chorizo so used 100g of ring chorizo which I think possible lowered the amount of oil. It was scrummy and I think sometimes you just have to go with it calorie-wise. Cook it at the weekend and enjoy it!

  I cooked this tonight for my husband and a friend they both enjoyed it tremendously. My husband likes his chicken with a lot of colour so I removed the skin and lightly floured the chicken before browning, I also added garlic & thyme to the fried onions. It was scrumptious!

  This was delicious - but is the calorie count per serving correct? It seems a little high according to my research. In any event, I dry fried the chicked then dry fried the chorizo and fried the onions in the chorizo fat and tipped away the left over fat. This gave the dish more than enough flavour

  To be fair I really don't mind about the fat content... looking at the ingredients I think they might have gotten itn wrong because there's 455calories in 100gr of chorizo so divided by 4 that is 113.75 per head. Then the chicken and oil is just healthy... fat does not make you fat as long as you eat good quality products I think it's okay. Sugars are another matter... :) Just thought I would share that with you guys...

  I have a feeling that the calorie amount ought to be divided by two, as it's a recipe for two, and 500-ish calories sounds more correct. One for BBC Good food I think! I do think that chicken thighs are a brilliantly cheap but tasty cut and beat the rather dull breast cut hands down.

  I've just done a quick calculation regarding the calories (using the website Weight Loss Resources as a calorie counter) and I'm afraid it does equate to almost 1,000 cals a portion - it's 963. Chicken thights with skin on, at around 120g each, do contain 250 cals so if you were serving 2 per person that is 500 cals alone, without evening counting the chorizo which has 455 cals for 100g. You could take the skin off the chicken to lower the cals. You could also fry the chorizo first and use the oil from that instead of adding oil at the beginning to fry the chicken in. Or you could serve just 1 chicken thigh per person instead of 2. A tin of butter beans also contains about 250 cals!

  Hi, folks. Anyone done this in a slow-cooker ("Crockpot")? With the beans, it seems an ideal candidate. As to the calorific content, BRING 'EM ON!!! After all, to appease ourselves, we divide the published calories by 1,000. So actually this meal has one million calories. Yesss!!!
