Method

  1. Heat grill to high. Heat the oil in a large frying pan, then soften the onion and pepper for 5 mins. Stir in the garlic, fry for 1 min, tip in the tomatoes and gnocchi, then bring to a simmer. Bubble for 10-15 mins, stirring occasionally, until the gnocchi is soft and the sauce has thickened. Season, stir through the basil, then transfer to a large ovenproof dish.
  2. Scatter with the mozzarella, then grill for 5-6 mins until the cheese is bubbling and golden.

TIP

You can freeze the bake for up to a month - just defrost and bake in a medium oven for 20-30 mins until piping hot.

Fantastic. I added grated chedder as well as the Mozzarella on the top. Also added extra garlic (4cloves in all) Cayenne pepper and some other small chopped veg - carrot and celery. To really beef up the tomato tasted I also added 2-3 tsps sundried tomato paste. Served with a really nice salad and sweet dressing this would make a great supper party dish. As with all recipes a few personal adjustments make it your own.

This recipy is perfect if youve short for time but i did add some chilly with the onions and red peppers....and then some more water when adding the gnocchi otherwise i think youll find the sause would be way too stodgy! Seasoned well super tasty!

This was very tasty and I plan to make it again. Was a nice warm, comforting dish for a cold midweek evening.

Really tasty. I used spring onions instead of onion and I didn't have a pepper so I chopped up some chorizo instead. I put in a really big handful of basil which added really nice flavour. I added a splash of balsamic vinegar to the tomato sauce which added some sweetness. I was really tempted to use the whole mozarella ball but in the end I made a tomato and mozarella salad as a starter. It really only feeds three people and that's including salad and garlic bread!

This was the first time I'd cooked with gnocchi, very quick easy recipe. We add chilli to the sauce to spice it up a bit, and sometimes a bit of just boiled water if its too thick. not sure about it serving 4 though! It just does the 2 of us!

Lovely recipe always looking for new things to do with gnocchi! I added chorizo, chicken, grated extra mature cheddar and crispy bacon for the top though which my boyfriend loved! Also I cook the gnocchi seperately then lightly fry it with some herbs in a griddle pan before putting into the sauce...it was lovely!!!

I thought this was OK but I'm not a huge fan of gnocchi. My boyfriend loved it though and wolfed it down. Cooked the gnocchi seperatly though as it only takes 1 or 2 mins to cook, then added to the sauce. We got 4 servings alright out of this dinner when served with a big leafy salad.

We were really disappointed with this, too stodgy and the sauce was just too much. I should've read all the reviews properly and added water and perhaps pancetta or chorizo. Dogs seemed to enjoy it though! Perhaps will try it again with adaptations

Made this earlier, adding some spinach, cherry tomatoes and a little chilli to the recipe. The sauce was out of this world, the gnocchi was fair. I've not had gnocchi before, I couldn't believe how chewy and claggy it is. To me, it felt like raw bread dough in my mouth. Would do this again, but would substitute the gnocchi for some cooked pasta shells.

first time we'd ever had gnocchi so didn't know what to expect. fantastic results. gnocchi is now to become a regular in our fridge :) added some mince first time round and made a bolognese style bake = sparkling clean plates spoke for themselves!.

This got a big thumbs up in our house! I added a dash of red wine to the sauce and only simmered for 10 minutes with the gnocchi. Like others I used the whole ball of mozzarella - naughty but nice! Served with a simple salad of petit pois and soya beans with a vinaigrette dressing and a generous handful of chopped fresh mint. Yum! Only serves 3 though (or are we a bit greedy?)...

A really quick and tasty dish. I couldn't find vegetarian mozzarella so added spoonfuls of creme fraiche and grated cheddar on top. I also added a good glug of red wine to the sauce. It was lovely and one I'll come back to.

Made this recipe last week and loved it with some garlic bread! Wasn't sure if I would as it seemed when cooking that there was an awful lot of onion in the sauce but it was great! Would definitely experiment with including different veg next time. Only downside is that I don't think it would serve 4 people.....3 people for a main meal, or 2 for a proper main meal and 2 small leftover portions for lunch the next day!
