Method

  1. Heat oven to 160C/140C fan/gas 3. Grease and line a 2lb/900g loaf tin with a long strip of baking parchment. To make the loaf cake batter, beat the butter and sugar with an electric whisk until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, flour, almonds, baking powder, milk and cocoa until smooth. Stir in the chocolate chips, then scrape into the tin. Bake for 45-50 mins until golden, risen and a skewer poked in the centre comes out clean.
  2. Cool in the tin, then lift out onto a wire rack over some kitchen paper. Melt the extra chocolate chunks separately in pans over barely simmering water, or in bowls in the microwave, then use a spoon to drizzle each in turn over the cake. Leave to set before slicing.

Made this for us big kids at Halloween! Went down a storm with a wee cuppa! Quick and easy but did need more time in the oven than stated. Will be making this again and I can see this cake being a firm favourite with the family. Cheers

This is the first recipe I have tried as I am new to the web-site. The cake turned out lovely, really moist and great taste, good texture, very inpressed. I did not have any ground almonds so I used a teaspoon of almond extract, which gave it a good flavour. Will certainly make it again!

LOVE THIS!! makes a delicious cake and I have tried it with various members of family/friends who say it is my best so far! I tend to put some chocolate butter icing on top mixed with a little nutella and add chocolate chips to the batter. Have also tried it with chunks of mars bar which melt into a lovely gooeyness!

Yumyumyum! Ok, so I didn't have the almond, and didn't substitute, nor did I have the chunks, but the sponge came out delish! Topped it with milk chocolate ganache instead, everyone loved it! Thanks a lot!

Delicious cake! I omitted the ground almonds and the cake turned out fine. The cake is rich, but this just means it goes further. Oh, it took longer to cook than stated. I did mine in a fan assisted oven at 140 degrees for 1 hr 15 mins!

Lovely moist cake, I cant say that I could taste the almond. Quick & easy to make will definitely make again!! It does take longer to cook than stated, think because its such a wet mixture.
