Method

  1. Heat oven to 160C/140C fan/gas 3. Grease and line a 2lb/900g loaf tin with a long strip of baking parchment. To make the loaf cake batter, beat the butter and sugar with an electric whisk until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, flour, almonds, baking powder, milk and cocoa until smooth. Stir in the chocolate chips, then scrape into the tin. Bake for 45-50 mins until golden, risen and a skewer poked in the centre comes out clean.
  2. Cool in the tin, then lift out onto a wire rack over some kitchen paper. Melt the extra chocolate chunks separately in pans over barely simmering water, or in bowls in the microwave, then use a spoon to drizzle each in turn over the cake. Leave to set before slicing.

Made this the other day and it's amazing. It kept really well and didn't dry out at all. Very moist cake.

Gorgeous moist loaf cake! So easy to make, although, like many others are saying, cooking time is a little longer than stated but believe me, it is sooooo worth the wait!!

Very nice cake. Took a lot longer to cook than specified - I had to turn the oven up and leave in for another 20 minutes. Nice and moist. I will use milk chocolate next time however as I think it will taste nicer than the plain. I drizzled with melted white chocolate and it's lovely. My husband is just digging into his second slice so it must be good :)

I used milk chocolate drops instead of plain chocolate chunks and it worked well. The cake itself is a really moist and delicious. Everyone who's sampled it has asked for more! I use it every time we have a 'get together' for my charity.

Very nice- not too chocolatey. I didn't bother with the drizzle on top. It took longer to cook than the recipe suggested. Lovely.

Have made this cake three times now and we love it, first two times i omitted the ground almonds as did nit have them and it was lovely, third time with the almonds and its even better. Really easy as well, would reccomend it for a novice cake maker.

Lovely and moist cake - take care not to overcook. I loved the chunks of dark chocolate in it.

Great recipe, very easy. I crushed some minstrels in to give it an extra crunch and drizzled extra white chocolate on top.

I should also add, that I drizzled Nutella on the top as I didn't have enough chocolate. It was very tasty!

Although super easy to make, mine came out too dry!! Skewer did not come out clean and left for another 10 minutes then it was dry!
