  • 16 halved pearl onions
  • 300g frozen peas
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 Baby Gem lettuces, finely shredded

Method

  1. Cook the pearl onions for 5 mins and the peas for 2 mins in separate pans of boiling water until the onions are soft and the peas are just cooked.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a frying pan, brown the onions, then add the peas and shredded Baby Gem lettuce. Cook just to heat through lettuce, then season and serve.

Lovely accompaniment, used shallots instead of pearl onions and 1 tbsp of salted lurpak light instead of oil. Also had the crushed new potatoes too!

The addition of 70g of pancetta and a small clove of garlic made this a whole lot better than the basic recipe! I was unable to find pearl onins so used finely chopped shallots instead. Make sure you get good quality lettuce.

speedy and tasty, served it with fish so added a squeeze of lemon & it didn't need a separate sauce. Will try it with shredded fennel through it too as an alternative soon.

I don't really like peas but enjoyed this very much. I cooked the peas in the microwave, used a chopped onion and sauted in oil and butter until soft then added the peas to warm through, then the lettuce. Nice for a change.

I have done this dish a couple of times, but changed the method. I don't bother pre-cooking the onions & peas, just brown the onions off, add the peas and just a little bit of veggie stock (enough to saute the peas) and then drain any excess liquid once the pease are cooked and bung in the lettuce. Much less washing up!

Great - quick and easy and makes a good accompaniment to lots of different dishes.

I added frozen baby broad beans, but blanched and peeled them first (well worth the trouble), I have also tried it adding
asparagus spears and green beans (you can also use frozen) and sprinkle with fresh herbs of your choice before serving
