  1. Fry the sausages in a wide pan with a small drop of oil until just cooked, about 8-10 mins, turning frequently until evenly browned.
  2. Drain off any excess fat from the pan, then add the maple syrup and mustard, stirring until the sausages are well coated, dark and shiny.
  3. Remove and cut into diagonal slices. Serve the sausages warm or at room temperature, speared onto cocktail sticks.

This recipe converts easily to a make-ahead one - simply fry sausages and make syrup / mustard sauce as before, but allow to cool and refrigerate both. When needed, pop in microwave until sausages heated through and sauce nearly bubbling, serve as before. Simple - takes less than five minutes and no frying smell to spoil the party. Use within 24 hours

I did these for a party and they went down a treat. Instead of chipolatas, I just used normal sausages from the butchers and then cut them up when they were cooked. Very yum!

Reheating sausages and sauce making microwave smell? try this - get rid of smell by squeezing juice of half a lemon or lime into a ramekin, put in squeezed half as well, fill 2/3 with water and microwave on high until just bubbling over - microwave now smells deliciously citrus fresh!

I grilled the sausages and then mixed them in the coating. Needed a little bit more maple syrup but still worked. Only lasted a few mins so I presume that they were liked!!!

This recipe is great if you use honey in stead of syup... cook the sausages in the oven until almost cooked, then mix in the sauce and put back in the oven until the sausages are cooked! Yum!!
