  • 1 pork steak, trimmed of fat
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 garlic clove, crushed
  • half a 410g can haricot beans in water, rinsed and drained
  • 125ml vegetable stock
  • 1 tbsp chopped coriander

Method

  1. Grill the pork for 12-15 mins, turning once until browned and cooked through. Heat the oil in a small pan, add the onion or shallot and fry for 3 mins until softened. Add the garlic, fry for 1 min more, then tip in the beans and stock and simmer for 5 mins. Roughly mash with a potato masher or fork, then stir in the coriander. Serve with the pork.

Used butter beans instead of haricot as supermarket didn't have any. Really delicious and so easy to make, definitely recommend for a quick dinner!

Never made this before and absolutely loved the mash!! Will be making this again for sure. Followed the advice of others and left the beans to cook for a little longer. Also added an extra clove of garlic & more onion. Delicious!

Right, that liquid measurement is ridiculous. A little liquid comes out with the beans anyway if theyre tinned, watch that and adjust. 50ml at most. Add another clove of garlic, because the taste gets lost, and cook for a minimum of ten minutes to get the beans really creamy. Other than that its amazing, I use it as a main for vegetarians (minus pork, obv) because they're a brilliant source of protein and carbs, no extras necessary.

The mash is delicious! Served it with the celeriac & parsnip mash (also on GF website) and toad in the hole. Very, very tastey.

I really didn't enjoy this at all! There was little flavour to the pork steak; the amount of liquid in the mash was too great; mashing the beans was very difficult; the beans didn't cook in the time given. Overall not very good at all!

There is plenty of flavour from the bean mash to leave the pork just grilled and lightly seasoned. Simple, tasty recipe.
