Method

  1. Heat the oven to 200C/fan 180C/gas 6. Cut a cross into each fig about 3/4 of the way down so they fan out a little. Put a cube of butter inside each fig and put in a buttered baking dish.
  2. Scatter the walnuts over and drizzle with maple syrup. Bake for about 20 minutes, glazing with the syrup and butter. Serve 3 figs per person with a dollop of the vanilla mascarpone.

Delicious and fantastically quick and simple! It's a shame figs aren't in season for longer.

This has been a great success for a dinner party dessert. It is very quick and easy -figs can be a bit pricey though. I used pecan nuts rather than walnuts and replaced the mascapone for Creme Fraiche which worked well as it cut through the sweetness of the maple syrup.

I used honey instead of maple syrup and it was delicious.

I used honey too and served with plain yogurt. My figs were off of the tree in my garden which made it an extra special, and very cheap dessert!

A great recipe which is just so easy to achieve. Is good with homemade vanilla icecream.
