  very easy recipe and tasty, although I halved the recipe as only two of us eating and it wasn't nearly enough. Definately need to chop the whole kilo of onions (which can be quite time consuming and painful on the eyes!). Worth it though as this soup was very delicious - especially with the giant croutons. mmm

  I think Sherry is important in this soup and is actually a lovely addition to a lot of soups, so it wouldn't be a waste to buy a small bottle. French Onion soup.....absolutely fab, even my 2 yr old loved it!

  If you're having a problem with yor eyes whilst chopping the onions, try putting a little bit of bread under your top lip and keep it there. It works! I have tried it.

  This soup is delicious, I didn't have any sherry but used red wine instead. The results were lovely - this soup goes very well with the cheese croutons. Would definately make this again!

  This was very easy to make and even my 8 year old son (who apparently doesn't like onions) absolutely loved it and needed a second helping. Will definitely be making this again.

  Absolutely gorgeous and very easy. I added a tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce and used white wine instead of sherry...delicious!
