Method

  1. Add the flour, salt, yeast, oil and warm water to a bowland mix together to form the dough. Mix first with a fork and then when the dough gets less sticky you can use your hands.
  2. Then place the dough on a floured surface and knead it. Knead by stretching the dough first one way and then another and so on until the dough is smooth and springy.
  3. Put the dough in a bowl and cover the bowl with clingfilm. Leave the dough to prove for 45 minutes to1 hour.
  4. When it has risen preheat the oven to 200C/400F/gas mark 6 and line a baking sheet with greaseproof paper.
  5. Core and quarter the apple and chop one quarter into small pieces.
  6. Stretch out the dough and scatter the chopped apple and some ground cinnamon on top. Fold and knead the added ingriedients into the dough until they are evenly spread. Add more chopped apple and ground cinnamon to taste.
  7. Shape the bread. You can stick to simple round read or be more adventurous and try and shape it like an apple! When shaped place it on the baking sheet.
  8. Make the glaze by whisking the egg, water and salt together and brush the bread with it using a pastry brush. Sprinkle sugar and cinnamon over the glaze.
  9. Put in the oven on the middle shelf and cook until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
  10. Leave to cool on a cooling rack and ENJOY!
