Olive & salami stuffed loaf

When friends drop by for a casual get-together this makes the perfect Italian-style lunch

Method

  1. Mix together the first six ingredients.
  2. Split the loaf in half horizontally.
  3. Layer up the ham, salami and cheese on the bottom half, pile on the olive salad, put on the top half and press down.
  4. Cut into quarters.

    i did this for a picnic, made the children one without the first six ingredients and put tomatoes in instead. went down really well

    I made this at the weekend and it was gorgeous. I took out some of the the bread dough from the bottom layer, just leaving the crust, which held in the filling, and was much easier to handle.

  • half a red onion , finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp capers , rinsed and drained
  • 1 garlic clove , crushed
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • round white loaf
  • 8 slices cooked ham
  • 8 slices Italian salami
  • 2 balls mozzarella , sliced, or 6 slices Emmenthal
