  Very nice with the custard. I tried one on its own and it felt dry to eat so it is best to do the custard with it.

  Made these for a family occasion where a lot of guests were watching their weight - all the children ended up eating the lot (custard or not)! Will definitely make again.

  excelant recipee i went for full fat not low call it worked well with dairy milk chocolate and the children and adults loved it.

  I think calling them muffins is a bit misleading - they didn't taste very nice on their own, but with the custard I thought they were more like little warm, satisfying sponge puddings. I'll have a go at the lemon next time, but I'll definitely hijack the chocolate custard idea again for other things!

  My son and I made these yesterday (not doing the hot choc custard and doubling up the recipe) and we added chocolate chips after reading the comments about being dry, this seemed to do the trick. Maybe next time we'll use either banana or a chunk of chocolate in the middle and serve them straight away, mmm. We used left over mix to make a daddy-sized birthday muffin, which we decorated with melted choc and sugar sprinkles - yum. I thought they didn't raise as much as I thought they would either and how do you know when they're cooked?! Being chocolate you can't tell if they're browned enough.

  yes they are a bit dry but will have to try them with the custard next time or as someone else suggested a large chunk of chocolate in the middle

  Totally agree with the other comments regarding being dry on their own and also the fact that they are described as "muffins" where as a more appropriate description would be cupcakes. I have made these since with chocolate chips and they are so much more moist. Just make sure that you coat the chips in flour to stop them sinking to the bottom of the batter. A very easy recipe and with the modifications mentioned (both mine and other subscribers), they are a real treat.

  Something went wrong with mine, they did'nt rise and tasted like rubber! If you are going to eat a muffin it has to be a REAL full fat one!

  Absolutely fantastic & was surprised how easy to make, as I've never made muffins before. Didn't have any custard, so just played about with some icing & melted milk chocolate - lush, no waste!

  I must admit, these are the worst muffins I have made. I added choc chips and they sank straigh to the bottom (have noted the dusting in flour tip for next time), but they still lacked flavour. They weren't dry just very bland!

  I made these yesterday, they were so easy to make. I added some roughly chopped milk cake covering chocolate to give some extra texture and although these sank to the bottom, they gave a realy nice gooey addition to the muffins. The recipe was just what I was looking for, simple and fast, thanks =]

  very easy recipe, yes bland, not too dry, needs the choc custard or the added choc chips or cover in the chocolate ganache from the ultimate chocolate cake like I did and was so yummy but not very low calorie or low fat...who cares when it tastes that good.

  I made mine with quinoa flour and added a tbsp of chia seeds to the wet ingredients instead of an egg. I also made them as mini-muffins. They turned out moist and were a bit bland. They didn't rise much, but i'm not familiar enough with quinoa flour yet to know if that's the reason. I'd probably add more cocoa powder next time.
