Method

  1. Heat the oven to 160C/fan 140C/gas 3. Melt the chocolate and butter in a bowl over a small pan of simmering water or in a microwave until smooth. Cool slightly. In a separate bowl mix the flour, baking powder and ½ tsp salt.
  2. Beat the eggs and sugar with an electric whisk until pale, about 2 minutes. Reduce the speed and add the chocolate mix and vanilla extract. Add the flour mixture until blended together. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for 1½ hours or even up to 2 days.
  3. Put the icing sugar in a small bowl. Shape the dough into 4cm balls and roll in the sugar. Put them on baking sheets lined with baking paper and press down lightly with your hand to flatten. Bake for 12-15 minutes for soft centres and set edges. Let cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes and then put on a rack to cool.

I've made this a couple of times now as the recipe but there are too many. I left out the chocolate, divided the mixture and added chocolate chips and hazelnuts to half and pistachios and almond flakes to the other. yum

Fairly easy - only issue was the measure of butter is quite difficult to gauge I would prefer it in grams. Also, have to leave the mixture for 1.5 hours - but the cookies are really moist so a success. The smaller the better for the cookies because they really expand. I added white choc chips as well mmmmnnn...

The kids helped make, bake and eat the cookies and absolutely loved it. It was so easy using the hand mixer and then rolling the dough in the icing sugar and making shapes with their hands. Fun to make and delicious to eat.

The cookies looked absolutely beautiful! But I found they didn't have quite enough of a chocolately flavour. I would recommend using 70% cocoa chocolate rather than just plain chocolate like it says in the recipe.

These cookies taste wonderful and are very soft. Take time to refrigerate the mix, it's worth it!

I have made these a couple of times and they have gone very very quickly. Even someone who doesn't like chocolatey cookies loved them, they also made a great snack on a long day out. I would definitely recommend these, just keep an eye on the dough because it gets quite hard and i found i had trouble getting it out of the bowl.

Amazing! This was my first time baking cookies, and being a massive chocolate fan, I changed the recipe slightly: I put less dark chocolate in (about 150g instead of the 200g stated) but added almost an entire 100g bar of Galaxy chocolate bar with cookie crumbles chopped into large chunks... Turned out really really well! I like big cookies, so made this into 6, but they turned even bigger in the oven, so I'd probably make this into about 10 next time. The perfect treat for chocolate lovers! Thanks for the recipe!

Yum! These cookies are amazing. And so easy to make. I was too impatient to wait for the dough to chill in the fridge, and just used it straight away, and they turned out just lovely. Definitely recommend!

I cook and bake quite a lot, this recipe however has me stumped - I just can NOT get it right, I've followed it to the letter and ended up with awful spongey biscuits.. I've changed it slightly and ended up with pancakes.. I'm giving up

Brilliant recipe, the guys at work adored these cookie brownie hybrids. I managed to make 24 from the batter which I left in the fridge overnight, I made 12 as per the original recipe and with the other 12 placed a square of white chocolate on the top before popping in the oven. I used 1/2tsp of baking powder and 56g of butter for my cookies and they have now been firmly added to my repertoire. Another Good Food success story.

I thought they were alright though definitely not the best cookie I've ever made. They were easy though and looked just like the picture. I just found them a bit featureless, as they were soft and onoly a bit chewy. Some pecans, or white chocolate chips, would in my opinion improve them lots.
