Chocolate crinkle cookies

Chocolate crinkle cookies

These cookies have an almost brownie-like texture and will keep well for about 5 days - if you can resist them for that long

Difficulty and servings

Preparation and cooking times

40 minutes + chilling

Method

  1. Heat the oven to 160C/fan 140C/gas 3. Melt the chocolate and butter in a bowl over a small pan of simmering water or in a microwave until smooth. Cool slightly. In a separate bowl mix the flour, baking powder and ½ tsp salt.
  2. Beat the eggs and sugar with an electric whisk until pale, about 2 minutes. Reduce the speed and add the chocolate mix and vanilla extract. Add the flour mixture until blended together. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for 1½ hours or even up to 2 days.
  3. Put the icing sugar in a small bowl. Shape the dough into 4cm balls and roll in the sugar. Put them on baking sheets lined with baking paper and press down lightly with your hand to flatten. Bake for 12-15 minutes for soft centres and set edges. Let cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes and then put on a rack to cool.

Has anyone managed to get these looking like the ones in the picture? Anyway, were lovely for most, personally I thought there was a bit too much sugar but then I used 50/50 dark and milk chocolate, so maybe they need 100% dark chocolate against the amount of sugar. i think I made about 20 but they were disappearing to fast to count.

These came out very well, and just like the picture, but were a bit like tiny cakes as opposed to cookies. They were way fun to make and my 5 year old enjoyed being a chocolatey sugary mess.

I made these cookies a couple of days ago, and I found the recipe very easy to follow, and I was thrilled when they came of of the oven looking exactly like the picture - very professional!! They taste even better after a couple of days, and are very moreish and I will definitely be making more! The whole family loved them, and they go perfectly with a hot mug of tea!

Everyone loved them! I left the mixture in the fridge for 24 hours which made it less messy to handle. Also, the more icing sugar you roll the cookies in before cooking them, the more they crack!!!

Do we have to beat in the flour, or sift it?

Wow, how messy are these to shape! I haven't eaten any yet (how proud am I of me) but they look and smell excellent. Very easy to make too.

Also nice with using golden caster sugar. It gives a better texture.

I was a bit disappointed with the taste and the texture, though they seem better the next day. I think there are better choc cookie recipes if I'm honest, but they went down a storm in my other halfs office which is who they were for so who am I to complain!

these were great although mine didn't crack but i didn't roll them in icing sugar so maybe thats why. Also I didn't flatten too much as thought they would spread which they didn't so we got cookie mounds! But they taste great - one to make again will roll in icing sugar and press flatter but I did get 24 out of the mix not that they will last very long - going to use a couple as a pudding for tonight broken up into icecream with choc chips and sauce.

I've made these twice now, the first time I couldn't wait and didn't bother chilling, they tasted fine, but the second time I chilled, the taste was the same. Second time it was easier to handle and meant that I didn't waste any mixture... they turned out better in my opinion, so I'll be chilling everytime from now on! Great taste & easy to make!

Forgot to say when rating this recipe that it was a pain that butter measurement was given in tbspn - it was a real pain - put the butter in a tbspn then worked out weight so know for next time.
