Method

  1. Heat oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4. Put the oats, almonds, sesame seeds and cinnamon into a large mixing bowl. In a small pan melt the butter with the honey then stir into the oats until it looks like rough breadcrumbs - you might need to use your hands.
  2. Put the apples, orange zest and juice and cardamom in a pan and cook for 10 mins until softened. Pick out the cardamom pods. Spoon into a baking dish, sprinkle with the sugar and scatter with the crumble mixture. Bake for about 40 mins until golden and crunchy. Serve with vanilla yogurt, ice cream or custard.

Extremely disappointing. The apple didn't cook properly and the crumble didn't stick together - it was just like loose porridge oats. Wouldn't recommend this recipe.

Should have heeded your comments!! I too found this very disappointing - although my apples did cook. Topping did not stick together and tasted like cardboard.

Also very disappointed with this recipe. I was looking forward to it as a treat on Sunday, but found the apples didn't cook well and the crumble was bland, dry and didn't stick. I followed the recipe exactly.

I too was disappointed with this recipe! I thought this would make a nice change. I was most disappointed with the topping - it fell apart. My apples were cooked, but then I probably stewed them a little longer than 10 mins. However we also didn't like the taste of the cardamom - will revert to my usual recipe next time.
