  • 85g soft butter

  • 140g icing sugar, sifted
  • 2 35g/1½oz packs white chocolate maltesers, mini foil-wrapped chocolate eggs We use Fairtrade Divine milk chocolate eggs from Waitrose


  1. Heat oven to 190C/fan 170C/gas 5 and put 16 gold cases into a fairy-cake tin. Tip all the ingredients for the cake into a mixing bowl and beat for 2 mins with an electric hand-whisk until smooth. Divide between the cases so they are two-thirds filled, then bake for 12-15 mins until risen. Cool on a wire rack.

  2. For the frosting, microwave the chocolate on High for 1 min. Cream the butter and sugar together, then beat in the melted chocolate. Spread on the cakes and decorate with Maltesers and chocolate eggs.

Baked at 170 (fan oven) for 15 minutes and they sunk when we got them out. Tasted gorgeous, so will try them again and cook for a few minutes longer. Very quick receipe tho, very kiddie friendly.

the sponge is okay, but the icing - wow. I pipe it on rather than spread it like the recipe suggests

If you can stand it (when does it become too much chocolate?), you can stick bits of broken Cadbury's flake on top of the frosting around the eggs - makes them look like they're in nests.

I have made these many many times and frosted with various different toppings. Easy, quick and delicious - they never last long in this house! I am going to have a go at making them in mini cupcake cases for my daughter's birthday party. Yum! A trial run, or cooks treat?? ;)
