Method

  1. Heat oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4.
  2. Put the mince into the mixing bowl. Add the onions, garlic, curry powder, cumin, garam masala, paprika or cayenne pepper and coriander, then mix well. By adding these spices, you'll get a delicious flavour without having to add any salt.
  3. Add the beaten egg and breadcrumbs, then mix again.
  4. Divide the meat mixture into 15-18 evensized pieces and shape into balls (they should be about the size of a walnut). Always wash your hands thoroughly after handling raw meat so you don't transfer any germs that may be on the meat to other food or equipment.
  5. Heat the oil in the frying pan over a medium heat and add the meatballs using a spoon. Cook them for 5 mins, turning until golden brown. Remove from the pan and place them on to the tray. Bake in the oven for 15-20 mins.
  6. Remove from the oven. Remember to use oven gloves! Allow to cool slightly and serve with a fresh, crisp green salad, some pitta bread and tomato salsa.
Try

Make it saucy

Fry 2 sliced garlic cloves in a little olive oil and add a 400g tin of chopped tomatoes. Bring to the boil, then transfer to an ovenproof dish. Add your meatballs, cover them with sauce and bake in the oven for 40 mins-1 hr. Serve with rice or pasta.

These are really nice! I served these with pittas and salad and not the sauce. Next time I make these they need a lot more spice and more seasoning! They were really delish and I'm excited about trying them with more spice! My hubby also cleared his plate! Will definately be making these again!!

These look great and i will definetly be making them. I will use Lamb mince, plus im going to use the sauce from the recipe 'Pink fish balls in spicy gravy' also on this site as i have lentils in the cupboard so this would be a good way of using them. The curry powder i have is quite spicy so i may not need to add extra chilli, although we do like our food with a kick so i may well add a bit of chopped chilli, i will decide at the time Im going to take up Nina's suggestion and use spicy Couscous, (Ainsley Harriots couscous spice sensation)and i too wont fry them but cook gently in the oven turning during cooking to ensure even cooking coverage. Im making myself hungry!!! x

Made the saucy version and used a total of 3 tsps of madras curry powder, omitted the garam massala and used cayenne instead of paprika - this definitely gave more of a kick. Served with rice and salad. Very easy to make.

Loved these! Was a great way to use some turkey mince I wasn't sure what to do with. I melted some little chunks of cheese over them while they were cooking and added a dollop of sour cream with a sprig of coriander to serve, delicious. They are so versatile, now I can make the meatballs I will be using them in lots of different ways.

Made this last night and after reading other comments added hot curry powder and 1 tsp of cayenne instead of half, salt and black pepper. Also fried the meatballs in chilli oil and they were very good. Even Mike (who can eat Vindaloo) said they were very tasty.

Very tasty. I do not use curry powder, so added more garam masala, which is of course mixed spices anyway, so why buy yet another spice mix?? We did like these, and served with a pilau rice and dall.

Made this last night and it was lovely. I did add more of the spices and was glad I did, because it would have been bland as mentioned by JMOD1720. Also added a touch of black pepper.

Our favourite meatballs - but do need seasoning and extra spice. My husband loves making a meatball sandwich out of the leftovers the next day. Usually use lamb but beef is ok too.

I made this a few days back for my boyfriend. I served with it noodles. I didn't had any greens to add to the noodles. So I added some food coloring to some noodles(a handful of noodles) and it worked really well. So this recipe is a super recipe. I also added more of dried chilli flakes and some extra pinch of salt too.Now I don't have to go for processed meatball packs. I can make my own.. :) !!! Thanks all the way..!!!!
