Method

  1. Heat oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4.
  2. Put the mince into the mixing bowl. Add the onions, garlic, curry powder, cumin, garam masala, paprika or cayenne pepper and coriander, then mix well. By adding these spices, you'll get a delicious flavour without having to add any salt.
  3. Add the beaten egg and breadcrumbs, then mix again.
  4. Divide the meat mixture into 15-18 evensized pieces and shape into balls (they should be about the size of a walnut). Always wash your hands thoroughly after handling raw meat so you don't transfer any germs that may be on the meat to other food or equipment.
  5. Heat the oil in the frying pan over a medium heat and add the meatballs using a spoon. Cook them for 5 mins, turning until golden brown. Remove from the pan and place them on to the tray. Bake in the oven for 15-20 mins.
  6. Remove from the oven. Remember to use oven gloves! Allow to cool slightly and serve with a fresh, crisp green salad, some pitta bread and tomato salsa.
Try

Make it saucy

Fry 2 sliced garlic cloves in a little olive oil and add a 400g tin of chopped tomatoes. Bring to the boil, then transfer to an ovenproof dish. Add your meatballs, cover them with sauce and bake in the oven for 40 mins-1 hr. Serve with rice or pasta.

Had to add more of the spices, plus dried chilli flakes, salt & pepper. Made them saucy, served with potato wedges and crunchy fine green beans. Will make again.

I made this tonight and really enjoyed it I did have to add an extra tin of tomatos as it dried out a little, next time i would add more spices, to give them an extra bit of a kick, they were delicious!

I made this last night and while not all the balls stayed 'intact' during the cooking process (my fault not the recipe!) it came out lovely. .I made it with the tomato sauce and so that coverd up my mess! I added extra spice and chopped chilli too. It was a really fantastic taste and served with a salad really complimented the heat and the cool together.

I made it with the sauce, ie. garlic and can of tomatoes. Really good but would add extra spices next time because the sauce made the flavour less strong. Served with rice and salad.

These are very easy and tasty meatballs but please do add a little more spice otherwise they would be a little bland. I added some chilli flakes and they were great.

I omitted Indian spices - only added paprika and salt and pepper. Once cooked I added them to Moroccan sauce (Speedy Moroccan meatballs recipe) Really delicious. Will definitely make again.

I made this recipe with the sauce and it was excellent. For an extra kick I added a tablespoon of harissa paste to the tomato sauce.

Lovely! Made them with turkey mince and added passata for a sauce. I didn't bother with the pan bit, just put them in the oven for 20 mins - they kept their shape perfectly. My 5yr old helped me shape them and she loved them too.

Fantastic - loved by all the family. It has the added bonus of being really easy! I also didn't bother frying them, just put them on an oiled baking sheet and rolled them over half way through cooking to ensure they were browned all over. Served with tomato sauce and rice and will use up left overs with pittas and salad. I do agree with other comments though that it needs more seasoning.
