Ingredients

  • 8 large sausages (course-cut ones like Toulouse or Cumberland are ideal)
  • ¼ quantity tomato sauce (see 'Goes well with')
  • 3 x 400g/14oz cans butter beans
  • 1 tbsp black treacle or muscovado sugar
  • 1 tsp English mustard

Method

  1. In a large casserole, fry the sausages until brown all over – about 10 mins.

  2. Add the tomato sauce, stirring well, then stir in the beans, treacle or sugar and mustard. Bring to the simmer, cover and cook for 30 mins. Great served with crusty bread or rice.

Really delicious and quick. I used two cans of butter beans and one can of baked beans which worked really well

Added onions and red lentils to bulk it up. Lovely! is it wrong to eat it all by yourself? lol

I made a quick sauce with a 400g carton of chopped tomatoes, bay leaf and oregano. Used 1.5 large tins of beans: a mixture of cannellini and kidney beans. Great!

I enjoyed this but I got a bit bored of the butter beans- given that you need 3 tins I'll be using 3 different types of beans next time for some variety. Quick easy and tasty though!

This is such a good, quick meal to cook. I cooked some onions, mushrooms, garlic and chorizo in with it as well which was really nice. I also vary the types of beans I'm adding in to it just to give it extra texture. Even managed to get my partner eating is and he doesn't usually like beans!!
