Method

  1. Mix together the soy sauce, sherry, sesame oil, garlic and ginger in a shallow dish. Add the steak and leave to marinate for about 20 minutes (or longer, if you have time).
  2. Heat a large heavy-based frying pan or wok, add the sesame seeds and toast over a high heat, stirring, for a few minutes until golden. Tip on to a plate.
  3. When ready to cook, heat the sunflower oil in a large frying pan or wok until hot. Add the steak with the marinade and stir fry for 3-4 minutes over a high heat until lightly browned. Remove, using a slotted spoon, on to a plate, leaving the juices in the pan.
  4. Toss the carrots in the pan and stir fry for a few minutes, then add the mangetout and cook for a further 2 minutes.
  5. Return the steak to the pan, add the mushrooms and toss everything together. Add the hoisin sauce and stir fry for a final minute. Sprinkle with the toasted sesame seeds and serve immediately.

Swapped the mushrooms for a pepper and sugar snap peas, used white wine instead of sherry, only marinaded the beef while I chopped the veg, and didn't have any sesame seeds, but it still tasted great.

Really enjoyed this and will certainly make again. Quick and easy to make and delivers on flavour - excellent.

Yep, I have made this a few times now and just use a tbsp of white wine instead

Has anyone tried cooking this without the sherry? I don't really want to buy a bottle just for one tbsp, unless it really makes a difference!! X

Hi
I have made this without the sherry and it was delicious- my 2 year old son eats with us so I left the alcohol out. Hope this helps.

Family absolutely loved this dish. I had to make one substitute as I couldn't find hoisin sauce on its own in the supermarket so I used a few tsp's of the blue dragon stir fry sauce. Still lovely and fresh.

This was a winner with the whole family, it tastes really good! I didn't make any changes apart from I served it with rice instead of noodles and I had a little bit of left over low fat chicken korma (also on here). Will make it again, it was amazing!

really tasty and easy to make dinner. I can't believe something so healthy can taste so delicious. I added baby corn and red peppers but apart from that I stuck to the recipe.

Absolutely delicious. Had all the ingredients in the fridge, the only addition I made was added a bunch of spring onions with the mushrooms. Will definitely make again.

This is seriously, seriously yummy! I used pork instead of beef and marinated it for about 45 mins and it tasted delicious. I also used a red chilli and some edamame beans I had in the freezer - I'm sure you could throw anything in you needed to use up. Will definitely make again.

Delicious! I've been using this website for ages & I love it! This is the first time I've added a comment. My husband said this dish was better than a takeaway. Didn't change anything except didn't have any mushrooms!
