plus 20 minutes marinating

Method

  1. Mix together the soy sauce, sherry, sesame oil, garlic and ginger in a shallow dish. Add the steak and leave to marinate for about 20 minutes (or longer, if you have time).
  2. Heat a large heavy-based frying pan or wok, add the sesame seeds and toast over a high heat, stirring, for a few minutes until golden. Tip on to a plate.
  3. When ready to cook, heat the sunflower oil in a large frying pan or wok until hot. Add the steak with the marinade and stir fry for 3-4 minutes over a high heat until lightly browned. Remove, using a slotted spoon, on to a plate, leaving the juices in the pan.
  4. Toss the carrots in the pan and stir fry for a few minutes, then add the mangetout and cook for a further 2 minutes.
  5. Return the steak to the pan, add the mushrooms and toss everything together. Add the hoisin sauce and stir fry for a final minute. Sprinkle with the toasted sesame seeds and serve immediately.

Fantastic quick & healthy supper. Really savoury & tastes much more exciting than you would think from the ingredients. Quite often don't have time to marinate so just let it marinate while I prepare the veggies & it is still delicious.

I added beansprouts and used french beans as I had them in already. Also, loosened up the sauce by adding a bit of water as it was a little sticky and I prefer a bit more liquid. A very tasty dish and the beef was fab!

The marinade really works well, I left it for around an hour and the meat tasted divine. I also added spring onions. Very good recipe and I will make it again.

Really tasty and make quite often. Don't add mushrooms but that's just personal choice and usually just becasue we don't have any kitchen.

I love it when the end product actually resembles the picture in the recipe. I experienced that rare sensation with this meal. I tried it because I liked the look of it. And it tasted exactly the way I hoped it would. Enjoyable to make and a pleasure to eat, even if I do say so myself.

Aside from the fact that whoever picked my shopping thought Moroccan Tagine sauce was a good substitute for Hoisin, this was a really tasty, light meal. My other half insisted he didn't like mange tout (despite never having tasted it) and this converted him completely! Very, very tasty, easy to make and highly recommended.

As I don't eat beef but hubby does, was looking for a quick midweek meal for him that was healthy and where he could eat the rest the next day. I added some quick-cook egg noodles at the end and a few dried chili flakes... He absolutely loved it! this one's going in the regular recipes folder!
