Method

  1. Put a large pan of water on to boil for the pasta. Fry the onion in the oil for 10 mins until softened and starting to colour. Pour in the wine, turn up the heat and let it bubble away until it reduces.
  2. Boil the pasta for 10 mins. Add crème fraîche to the onions, bring to the boil, tip in the mussels and cook for 5 mins until open (discard any that don't). Drain the pasta, return to the pan and tip in the mussel mixture. Toss with the herbs and serve.

I made this dish this evening, I served it with spaghetti as I didn't have any tagliatelle and have to say it was yummie yummie!! I also added 2 cloves of garlic to the onions (we are garlic lovers here!) and the result was superb! I served up lots of crusty bread to mop up the juices and we just kept dipping into it and truly finished off a tasty crusty loaf and a delicious red wine. Enjoy!

I changed this quite a lot to suit what I had in but the result was still delicious. I used spaghetti and frozen mixed seafood. I followed the rest of the recipe but also added a squeeze of lemon to the wine and some capers in with the seafood.

I have made this numerous times, and its gets MORE AND MORE DELICIOUS!! We can't get enough of this dish! I just can't believe how something so simple, can be so good! Last night we only had a few frozen mussels, so we supplemented with a packet of frozen seafood mix. Worked fantastically as well. I use a whole tub of creme fraiche (in South Africa it comes in a 250g tub), and very seldom worry with the tarragon. Also used spaghetti as I was out of tagliatelle....still most delicious! ENJOY!

Straightforward, quick, tasty and great either for a dinner party or just at home (possibly too tasty as the bf and I devoured what was intended for 4 people on our own!!)

Tasty but does need an extra bit of zing! Capers and lemon juice as suggested by Sarah would definitely do the trick.

This went down a treat. Used 500g frozen mussels and some frozen prawns with spaghetti. Didn't defrost first so cooking time was a bit longer. Lot's of flavour while not too heavy on the palette. Agree with lotte123 about the danger of 2 people troughing the whole lot in one go!

The recipe asks for mussels in a garlic butter sauce but I can't find this anywhere? Did everyone else use mussels in garlic butter or is there some way to substitute it with plain mussels?

I've made this loads of times, last few times making it with a bag of frozen Tesco seafood mix. Fantastic, added a little garlic with the onion. A winner in my family!

This recipe is so so tasty and must be one of the most simple recipes to do. We added a small freah chilli, which just gave it a very small kick without losing all those fab flavors. Also added some king praws which works very well. Try it and see!!! Yuuuummmmyyy

Made, liked, would perhaps try without the tarragon, although I did use dried and the recipe calls for fresh.

Disappointed. Liked the sauce, but maybe mussels just aren't for me.
