1. Video tutorial: Lining a cake tin

1. Heat oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4. Butter a 20-25cm cake tin and line with greaseproof paper.
2. Place 175g/6oz of the chocolate, plus the butter and sugar in a heavy-based pan and heat gently until melted, stirring occasionally. Leave to cool.
3. Whisk the egg yolks into the chocolate mixture, then add the flour, nuts and the remaining chocolate.
4. Whisk the egg whites until they form soft peaks, then gently, but thoroughly, fold into the chocolate mixture.
5. Pour into the prepared tin and bake in the centre of the oven for about 35-40 mins until crusty on top. Leave to cool, then run a knife around the sides and remove from the tin. Dust with icing sugar and serve warm with custard or ice cream or cold with cream.

  My 6 and 3 year old girls helped me make this for my husbands birthday. Everybody loved it and it tasted delicious. Will definately make again. We added some extra white chocolate just for good measure.

  Never been a fan of brownies but baked this for my daughters, who adored it, have to confess I did too and so easy to make, will be making this again. I substituted pecans with a mixture of walnuts and brazil nuts, delicious

  This is just a fab cake, have made it 3 times in just one week. I've got a friend who can't eat nuts so I replaced them with blueberries and that just took the cake to another level. If you do add blueberries you may have to add another five mins to the bake time. Today I will be making it again but I will be split the cake mixture into two sandwich tins. One will have nuts the the other will have blueberries and I will join them together with cream, I'll let you know how that goes.

  I made this for my friends birthday at work and it was fantastic!! Everybody loved it. I did add mini marshmellows to the mix as well which also kept it really nice and gooey in the centre. Am going to try it again and add some banana just to see how it goes!

  My cake turned out delicious but very crumbly. It practically falls apart in my hands. Is that supposed to happen or did I do something wrong?

  Really easy and really successful. I used chopped walnuts in lieu of pecans and a 50/50 mix of dark and milk chocolate. Also try dusting with drinking cocoa.

  I have to say mine rose nowhere near as much as the one in the photo!! Very very yummy though, really chocolatey and a nice balance of chew and crunch!

  Really gorgeous! For serious chocoholics only!! It did take another 15-20 mins longer to cook and even then the inside was gooey, the top crisp. It is lovely served warm with good quality vanilla ice cream. I'm going to serve it at my next dinner party.

  I tried this, it tasted very very nice :) Though I think I was expecting it to rise a bit more than an inch... But it was easy and thats all that matters :)

  So easy to make and soo lovely... Just perfectly crunchy crust brownie should have, with a wonderfully gooey chocolatey interior. Made wth Lindt 85% cocoa solids and melted all the chocolate - and it set perfectly
