Method

  1. Heat oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4. Butter a 20-25cm cake tin and line with greaseproof paper.
  2. Place 175g/6oz of the chocolate, plus the butter and sugar in a heavy-based pan and heat gently until melted, stirring occasionally. Leave to cool.
  3. Whisk the egg yolks into the chocolate mixture, then add the flour, nuts and the remaining chocolate.
  4. Whisk the egg whites until they form soft peaks, then gently, but thoroughly, fold into the chocolate mixture.
  5. Pour into the prepared tin and bake in the centre of the oven for about 35-40 mins until crusty on top. Leave to cool, then run a knife around the sides and remove from the tin. Dust with icing sugar and serve warm with custard or ice cream or cold with cream.

Wow! This was a serious chocolate hit! Bit too rich for me but everyone else loved it! Top seemed crumbly, almost dusty when touched? Not sure if it was supposed to be or if it was because I had visitors who arrived just after I melted choc, they stayed a while so it was quite thick when I used it - I wasn't sure if I could melt it again. Still vanished quickly though!

This is a very easy cake to make, I added an extra egg, as suggested and the texture was light and moist.. perfect! As usual with brownies I took it out of the over just before it was done, so it was still wet inside. Just as long as you get those stiff peaks, it's fool proof!

A very easy recipe to follow, my 7 year old daughter loved helping. The cake didn't quite end up like the picture, although it did taste heavenly! We tried it cool, with some limoncello cream, yum!

Lovely, I made it with my 3 boys for an evening with friends. Everyone loved it. We missed out the pecans and added some chopped white chocolate instead due to fussy kids but still came out fab. Light and almost moussy in the middle with a cruchy outside, yummy!

I tried this recipe last night. It was simple and delicious! I did have to extend the cooking time by 10 minutes and I replaced the pecans with flaked almonds. Will definitely be making this again! NOM!

this is just as nice with out the pecans.I also found that it freezes well if you pre cut some slices and wrap it up well, then it's ready to be taken out when needed for pack lunches

Tried it last week and thought it was a bit dry, couldn't figure out why, used 4 eggs instead of 3 as well. For that reason, I'm giving it only 3 stars. Taste wise, it was lovely, wasn't too sweet. Perhaps I should have left the chocolate bits a bit chunkier.

I added 4 eggs as per some of the comments left on here and used milk chocolate instead of dark chocolate. Had to cook for an extra 15 minutes, it was slightly burnt on top and around the edges however delicious

Very moist chocolate cake/torte! To make it a special birthday cake, I added chocolate frosting on top, with raspberries and malteasers, very rich, looked great and went down very well!

This cake was absolutely amazing! It was so easy to make! I made the cake for a spanish family that I'm living with at the moment so was really nervous it wouldn't be to their taste but they all loved it and asked for the recipe! I served it with vanilla ice cream and strawberries that I had dipped in chocolate and left to set over night. I could make this cake every day! :)

Made this earlier today as I have been keen to try different chocolate cake recipes. Served it warm with custard to my family and within 10 minutes all were asking for seconds. Made with milk chocolate and white chocolate chunks instead of nuts, was absolute heaven

I don't like pecans and replaced with hazelnuts, marvellous. Impressed everyone, work friends and family. If I can make this anyone can!
