Method

  1. Heat a large non-stick pan, add the beef then fry over a medium-high heat until browned, stirring often and breaking up any lumps with a spoon. Crumble in the stock cube and mix well.
  2. Add the vegetables, stir to mix with the beef and pour in enough boiling water (about 1.3 litres) to cover. Bring to the boil, then lower the heat and stir well. Cover the pan and simmer gently for about 30 mins or until the vegetables are tender.
  3. Tip in the baked beans, sprinkle with Worcestershire sauce or Tabasco to taste, stir well and heat through. Taste for seasoning and sprinkle with parsley. Serve with extra Worcestershire sauce or Tabasco, for those who like a peppery hot taste.

Delish! Basically, it's mince and tatties with a twist. Very simple to make and will definitely make it again.

lovely and wholesome dinner - did it with one pack of 500g mince - and this did for 2 evening meals although both times my husband had seconds. Didn't put in so much water as like it nice and thick and added fresh thyme at the end which was lovely. Will most likely make it again- just like shepherds pie with the potatoes inside

This is very good. I added a tin of butter beans and a large sweet potato, cut into chunks. Also threw in some herby dumplings for the final 15 mins. Real winter warming stuff!

Gosh I must have done something wrong....This turned out awful...really watery, tasteless and really mushy....I cook lots of lovely casseroles and thought this would be really easy and lovely. I had to add lots more seasoning for it to be edible but turned out more like soup...potatoes turned to mush!!!! Has this happened to anyone else????

Urgh! This ended up very watery, and not nice at all. Perhaps cooked too long.

Thought this was delicious, but definitely thought there was far too much water (I used a litre). You do need this though to make sure the veg is cooked but I cooked it down for an hour and it was perfect (plus it was nicer when the veg was softer). Really delicious. Haven't tried freezing it but will tonight!

A super casserole for all the family to enjoy on a winter's cold day. All in one pan is the best I know of, less to wash. This is a hit with all my family.

Yum yum yum - gobbled up by all the children too. I used left over roast beef that had dried out a little and it was quick and easy and delicious.

I'm not sure why everyone's raving about this one. I thought it was awful. Like hospital food, only worse. Not a good recipe for those who enjoy full-flavoured meals.

Really excellent mid-week supper. Cook ours in the slow cooker so the veg is wonderfully tender. Boyfriend adores it. Even better when reheated the next day!

This is a great meal which is very easy, very cheap and turns out really tasty. I followed the recipe but simply cut the amounts down to make less (but tried to keep the ratios roughly the same). I used worcestershire sauce for mine and also added a few gravy granules and plenty of seasoning to make it extra yummy. Served it with bread rolls warm from the oven and it went down a treat. Far tastier than I expected!
