  1. Heat the oil in a large saucepan, then fry the onion for 5 mins until beginning to soften. Add the paprika and cook for a further min, then stir in the tomatoes and 1⁄2 a can of water. Simmer gently for 10 mins until thickened and glossy.

  2. Tip in the mixed beans and continue to cook for a further 2 mins to just heat through the beans. Spoon into warm bowls and serve with soured cream and toasted ciabatta slices, drizzled with olive oil.

This is a great easy to make and very tasty recipe, I added garlic and a bit of chilli as well - will make this again and again.

Looking at the other reviews, I was keen to try this. However, I found it to be very bland, bitter and watery. I didn't enjoy this dish unfortunately.

I was really disappointed with this. I'm not sure if it's because I used normal paprika instead of smoked (couldn't find any in Sainsbury's) but I found it really bland however much I added. I had the leftovers as a side-dish with sausages which made it a bit nicer as they lent some flavour to the dish. I wouldn't make it again

You absolutely need to use smoked paprika for this dish because it has real depth of flavour and transforms the taste from bland to warm / tasty. You can buy mild or hot smoked paprika. I tend to go for the hot variety, in which case reduce the tablespoon suggested in this recipe to a teaspoon or two. This is one of my quick store cupboard recipes - great result from store cupboard ingredients.

My husband likes spicy food so I added flame roasted red peppers, garlic, ground cumin, chillli powder and freshly ground nutmeg. It was delicious!

I was making this from the recipe in Easy Cook Mag, and it said 2 tbsp paprika....Whew....glad I thought that was too much in a recipe for 2 people and only put 1 in! Even so it was still too much for me.

I also fried a little chorizo in with red onion at the start. I added garlic and some chopped up green beans which needed using up. Simple, quick and tasty. Served it over a jacket potato with creme fraiche.

I couldn't get hold of any smoked paprika so I used Cajun spices instead. I also added sliced jalapenos after serving. It tasted great!

This is lovely but needed some additions. We used balsamic vinegar, brown sugar and some vegetable stock. Then served with warm pitta bread.

I added some left-over, chopped up, pork shoulder and served it with rice and crusty bread and everyone loved it - even the kids!

Instead of chopped tomatoes with garlic, try adding a tin of ratatouille. For extra kick a teaspoon of marmite/ vegemite adds depth.

I started this recipe by frying some chorizo and red peppers before adding the rest of the ingredients. I also added some chilli flakes and just used a couple of tins of whichever beans were in the cupboard. It was really tasty, I love beans so I was bound to enjoy it but my husband is not such a bean fan but he liked it too!
Served with grated cheese, sour cream and garlic bread.

Quick, simple and delicious! What more can you ask. Couldn't get somked paprika or tomatoes with garlic, so used ordinary paprika and added a tsp of Easy Garlic. Still great! Will also try with chick peas as suggested, as I love them.
Tr more veggie stuff, Rog - you'll be surprised (and healthier).
