Method

  1. Break the Madeira cake and cookies into the bowl of a food processor, pour in the melted milk chocolate and whizz to combine.
  2. Tip the mixture into a bowl, then use your hands to roll into about 10 walnut-sized balls. Chill for 2 hrs until really firm.
  3. Push a skewer into each ball, then carefully spoon the white chocolate over the cake balls to completely cover. Stand the cake pops in the pumpkin, then press a Smartie onto the surface while wet. Chill again until the chocolate has set. Before serving, using the icing pens, add a pupil to each Smartie and wiggly red veins to the eyeballs.

tasted good but after chilling were very hard. Melted white chocolate was hard to use as not runny, think you need double amount so you can dip whole ball in to cover. Was a long activity. Unfortunately we didnt finish and ended up using the oreo balls to dip into chocolate fondue with strawberrys grapes and marshmellows!!!

followed the recipe exactly, but just didnt work out like the photo at all! haha the mix was obviously set in the fridge and when i went to put the skewer in and dip it in the chocolate, the whole mix just collapsed, so only managed to make 4 in the end :( but they tasted delicious, so not a total let down :)

A bit fiddly but worth the effort...the kids loved them! I put two layers of chocolate on letting one layer dry first. They still didn't look like the picture but they were good enough to make an impression!

Despite previous comments, I found this recipe very easy. I am 12 and was making these for a halloween bake sale. They were very rich and sold out fast! They do take time, but I made them over a couple of days which worked fine. I found I needed to add a little milk to the madeira cake/oreo mixture to make them form together better. I put the sticks in before chilling. The white chocolate was not a problem because I poured it into a tall glass then dipped the cake pops in. I sat them on baking parchment and scraped off the excess. The cooled white chocolate had some wierd growths, but the back of the chocolate packet said this was normal - in fact it added to the effect!
