Method

  1. Heat oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4. Butter and line the base and sides of a 23cm springform or loose-bottomed cake tin. Put the butter and chocolate into a pan and gently melt together until smooth. Meanwhile, using an electric whisk, beat the eggs and sugar together for 5 mins until billowy and about the thickness of old-fashioned custard.
  2. Pour the chocolate and butter mix into the whisked egg and sugar, then fold it in very carefully using a large metal spoon. Mix the flour, almonds and ¼ tsp salt together, then fold into the mix until even. Spoon into the tin and bake for 35-40 mins until evenly set with a slight crust all over the top. Leave the cake to cool until warm, then release from the tin. Dust with cocoa, then cut into wedges.

Seriously good, seriously easy, seriously satisfying. I prefer it warm served with some ice cream when serving at dinner party. I served it cold once too but personally preferred it warm.

Excellent dinner party dessert, went down really well as not over whelmingly rich as some similar recipes are. I served it with the mascarpone marmalade ice cream which was also delicious. However if serving the two together you need to double the amount of ice cream ingredients to serve 8-10 people.

I made this with the marmalade ice cream too. Gorgeous. Just the right amount of richness - I had made 2 cakes, one supposedly to freeze, but family finished it off!

Did this for a night with the girls and it was a real hit. I didn't have time to make the ice cream so simply bought a tub of good vanilla, took 2 scoops out and added 3tbl marmalade, 1tbl orange juice and zest of an orange, smushed it all and put it back in the freezer. Fabulous!

Not only it's very easy and quick to make but it ws a real success. I just served it with double cream and it was lovely, but no doubt ice cream would make it fabulous!

Absolutely delicious, went down very well with both my dark chocolate freak friend and my husband who is not a fan of dark chocolate. The toddlers loved it too. I keep one in the freezer for emergency dinner parties - it is comes out perfect even after 6 months in the freezer :-0

Made this for a dinner party the night before it took place. Just warmed it up whilst we were eating the main. It was delicious. Served it with raspberries and vanilla ice cream/cream. Will definately make it again, and again, and again...

This is so simple, looks great, and tastes even better. A dinner party fave that freezes brilliantly, and goes great paired with the ice cream or even some double or softy whipped cream.

Hi. My friend Daniel has a terrible wheat allergy, and so this recipie would be perfect. I'm looking to bake it tommorow and only have 50% chocolate in: would it spoil the recipie? Please let me know!
