  1. Heat the grill to high. Beat together the mayonnaise, butter and garlic cloves until smooth. Chop basil, stir through and season with salt and pepper. Put the halves of the ciabatta, sliced lengthways, on a baking tray and spread with the butter. Sprinkle with grated Parmesan, then grill for 2-3 mins.

Loved it & so simple to make. Served it with Cauliflower cheese soup so felt it didn't need the parmesan cheese on top, but next time I will depending on the dish.

Tried this tonight. Absolutely dreadful. Sickly, overly-rich and yet oddly flavourless when compared to classic garlic bread. The lesson here is "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Just had a thought, if you substituted the basil for mint, woudn't it make a nice accompaniment for the pea and mint soup?

OMG! NEVER will I buy again! Have done my own garlic bread for a while but the addition of the mayo really does make this delicious!

Perfect! Just add more or less of what we feel like on the day... more cheese or garlic dependant on how we feel. Thinking of adding some parsley and seeing how that tastes too! 5* recipie, quick easy and delicious!

This was delicious...we've had it twice this week! First time made it with ciabatta and second time with bread rolls that needed using up. I forgot to season the mixture before I spread it on the bread but it was lovely with a bit of pepper and maldon salt sprinkled on top.

Made this for a birthday dinner tonight - VERY popular and delicious!
However the garlic butter is not enough for more than one ciabatta. I used 3 small ones cut in half, and the butter wasn't enough.
