Method

  1. Put the ribs in a large pan and cover with water. Bring to the boil and simmer for 15 mins. Meanwhile, pour the hoisin sauce in a jug and stir in the soy sauce, honey, vinegar and five-spice.
  2. Drain the ribs very well, then brush with the glaze - if barbecuing, chill, cover and keep in the fridge for later.
  3. Heat the grill to high, if using. Grill or barbecue for 15-20 mins, turning from time to time until shiny and slightly charred in places. Serve hot.

We thought boiling the ribs initially sounded unapetizing, but gave it a go. WOW were we impressed. The end result was so tasty that we've now made them a few times for different guests and just for ourselves because they were so yummy. Can't wait to try them on the BBQ as we've only tried them over the Winter so far and so oven baked on a rack! Very easy to do, the kids love preparing them (& eating them).

These were delicious! I boiled them for as long as the recipe said and they were fine. They smelled a bit funny when I drained them, which put me off, but honestly, once that glaze is on and they're grilled, they tasted amazing, and they were so easy too!

These ribs were very tasty! I made them for friends last week and got great feedback, I cooked in the oven rather than grilled because other things were in too. Worked really well and dead easy!

Am cooking these for dinner this evening, together with chicken wings using another recipe of this site. My husband will think all his christmases have come together! I would agree that they smelled awful after being boiled, but once drained and now in the glaze they are looking and smelling gorgeous.

I am a vegitarian but have made these twice for family and both times people have loved them. Made extra tonight so had some extra to take on picnic tomorrow, but they have been eaten too. Lol. So easy to make too.

Absolutely Beautiful. I made these with the speedy egg fried rice recipe (with added onions), and I prefer this to an ordered chinese any day. Just about to make it for the second time, and im glad I'm sitting in a large room, otherwise i might just be dead from drowing in my own saliva. Make this!

I made these today; boiled them for slightly longer than recommended and they were tender. The marinade was so tasty and everyone enjoyed. Simple recipe; will definitely make again.
