  1. In a large saucepan, cook onion and garlic in olive oil for 5 mins until softened and turning golden. Tip in the beef strips, pepper, tomatoes and rosemary, then bring to the boil. Simmer for 15 mins until the meat is cooked through, adding some boiling water if needed. Stir through the olives and serve with mash or polenta.

literally just made this and delicious is an understatement!

I'm relatively new to cooking and find this website a massive help, have been trying out a few easy recipes and this is my fave so far. Always imagined stew to be something that takes hours and hours to cook but this was prepped and ready in under an hour!

Read a few of the comments here before I cooked it and took on board suggestions and added paprika, a beef stock cube, mushrooms, simmered for 25min and left to reduce for 15. Served with brown rice. Definitely only serves 2 though unless you want a 3 year old sized portion.

This was so easy to make and the result was lovely. I upped the garlic content and added courgette.

Easy to make and very filling - but lacking a little in flavour. I added smoked paprika, fresh basil, black pepper and some other dried herbs, and it was still a touch bland sadly. Probably could have been pepped up a bit with a little salt, but I'm steering clear at the moment. In all though it's a good recipe to have in the arsenal, and easily adaptable.

I've made this a few times now and I always find the meat goes a little chewy.

Added crumbled feta on top just before serving, and even my feta-hating boyfriend loved it.

Really tasty and enjoyed by all, used fillet beef strips and red onion and was very soft and tasty. Added some gravy granules to thicken as otherwise would have been bit thin sauce.

Tasty. Stir fry beef isn't always the best and spoilt this a little bit - get expensive stuff if you're picky!
I put a tin of cannellini beans in mine to bulk it out into a one-pot dish - very lazy but worked well.

Tried this recipe today - made it in the slow cooker to make the meat more tender and added smoked paprika. Reduced the sauce down and it was very tasty.

I made this but without olives and peppers as I didn't have any in at the time but instead added some spinach, green beans and butterbeans. Thought I had rosemary in the cupboard but had to use mixed herbs. Guess I deviated away from the original receipe but it turned out super tasty!!!

Oh and as I turned into a goulash, I omitted the olives. I just munched on them while I let the stew cook for an hour uncovered to get the flavours to come together.

Made this from the cookbook and thankfully had read the reviews on here 1st. This recipe only make 3 smallish portions. I made following the recipe until it came to simmering it for 15 mins. Instead I put it in the oven covered at 160 C for a few hours as I had chaper beef shin to use. After 2 hours I tasted it and found it to be very bland so I added some beef stock (the Knorr jellied type) and some paprika. This turned it away from Italian-style to Hungarian-style. The 2 stars is for the original recipe as although edible I wouldn't make it again. I would however use it as a base and add other flavours.

I had a busy day so made this in the slow cooker, really tasty could easily take more flavours.

Very easy and tasted great. I simmered it for 30 mins to thicken the sauce and added some black pepper and a beef stock cube to enhance the flavour.

Quick and easy, I added two yellow pepper and next time I think I will roast them first to give the dish a little more depth, I also added a courgette, beef stock and paprika (as others had suggested).

Both me and my partner liked the flavours of this dish although I thought the steak could have done with being more tender but than again I am very fussy. I added a tsp of paprika and chilli powder and cooked in the oven for an hour, the sauce was thick enough and I served it with crusty bread. Will make it again.

Made this for my other half last night; added chorizo to start with, left out the olives and added some smokey paprika powder and loads of pepper to make the whole thing less sweet. Also had to let it reduce for a bit longer; served with new potatoes, delicious!

I didn’t find it as exciting as I would have liked to, but I think some chilli in there would make it perfect. Also, it wasn’t thin, as other people said it was.

i cooked this with passata instead of tins of toms - added a pinch of paprika & a tsp of pesto to the sauce as well... it's in the oven for 2 hours now & smells luvly :)
