Method

  1. Heat the oil in a large saucepan over a medium heat, then add the onion and bacon. Cook for 8-10 mins until the onion is soft and the bacon is cooked. Stir in the flour, then cook for a further 2 mins.

  2. Pour in the fish stock and bring it up to a gentle simmer. Add the potatoes, cover, then simmer for 10-12 mins until the potatoes are cooked through.

  3. Add the mace, cayenne pepper and some seasoning, then stir in the milk.

  4. Tip the fish pie mix into the pan, gently simmer for 4 mins. Add the cream and shellfish, then simmer for 1 min more. Check the seasoning. Sprinkle with the parsley and serve with some crusty bread.

Wonderful for a quick tea that tastes like you have spent hours creating. Tastes expensive but is reasonably cheap to make. Impress your family and friends with this one.

Very easy and very delicious, a new favourite in our house! I didn't have cayenne or mace but added chopped chilli with the onions and I did thicken it a little more before serving but I guess that's personal taste.

Fantastic recipe, I leave out the mace and cayenne but add a finely chopped chilli with the onions, also some peas and sweet corn with the fish

really lovely, although the sauce wasnt too thick for me at all, I actually ended up adding in a little cornflour to thicken it. Went down a treat though, even my non-seafood loving sister managed a wee bowlful!

Made this for my brother and I for dinner. I can't usually eat rich, creamy dishes but this recipe is lovely. My order for seafood mix with Tesco's with substituted with frozen white fish but it worked just as well. I also used half a small pot of single cream rather than 4 tbsps and I only had dill which worked nicely as a substitute for my missing parsley. YUM, YUM, YUM!

This is a fab recipe so simple to make and tastes delicious. I sautéed a leek along with the bacon and onion, and added fresh prawns at the end. Serve with crusty bread or garlic bread. Can't wait to make it again for friends.

This was lovely and easy to make. I added frozen peas, sweetcorn and chopped red pepper at the same time as the fish to add some veg for my little boy. I also just used cod and some cooked prawns as that's all I had at home.

Absolutely gorgeous!!!

I couldn't find a fish pie mix in my local supermarket here in Dubai so I bought a couple of salmon fillets, prawns, calamari rings and some white fish (all fresh) and just chopped it up an added it in. I added more chilli powder, some dried parsley and tarragon as well. Didn't have fish stock so used chicken and a few drops of fish sauce. Hubby thought it was one of the best soups I've ever made. Doesn't need the potatoes as it's quite rich as it is.

This went down really well, would definitely make again. My only comment would be that it was a bit thin, could have been a bit thicker. The recipe is really easy to follow. I didn't use any shell fish just some cooked prawns at the end.

Hi pollyhammerton, thanks for your question. We would advise not freezing this recipe as the freezing process could mean you end up with a grainy unpleasant texture.
