Method

  1. Heat oven to 240C/220C fan/gas 9. Oil a 20 x 24cm baking tray. Mix the flour, yeast, ¼ tsp salt and the sugar in a bowl, then stir in the water. Bring the mixture together, knead until smooth, then press into the oiled tray.
  2. Spread passata over the dough, leaving a thin border round the edge. Season the passata, then sprinkle with the chopped basil, the mozzarella and the Parmesan, and bake for 15-20 mins or until cooked through. Scatter with the remaining basil and serve with a side salad.

Tikka pizza: Scatter some cooked chicken tikka over the passata and replace the basil with coriander. For extra heat, add some chopped chill to, or try - Chorizo & olive pizza: Layer thin slices of chorizo over the passata and scatter with sliced olives.

Looks great but a first glance tells me it might benefit from a good glug of olive oil in the dough. Say 25ml oil and reduce the water by this amount.

Very good - my 8 year old daughter made the tikka pizza alternative largely by herself and it was very tasty. Servings were quite generous. The base rolled out a lot easier than my normal pizza dough as well.

Great flavour considering how few ingredients there are. I used a larger tray to get a thinner base and it worked perfectly. My children loved making it and eating it!

Great. Very quick to make. No stress. Followed AugustusPeabody's advice and mixed 25ml oil with the warm water. Will be making often.

This is only the 2nd time I've ever made a pizza (1st time was a disaster) and it was remarkably quick and easy. I doubled the ingredients and made a bigger pizza to feed four. Such simple ingredients but so delicious. This is definitely going to be served up again and again in our household - perfect for the kids when they come in from school starving.

Super easy and tastes delicious! You can just make the base and put whatever toppings suit you, not too thick or thin base, just right. Slightly golden after cooked, just perfect, better than any shop brought pizza! Definitely would reccomend this, best recipe i've tried so far :-) xxx

This tasted great but the base was not fantastic. When I made it the 2nd time I tried the suggestion of swapping some of the water for oil which definitely improved it but not enough. A different pizza recipe I tried many times (from this site) is even better tasting and the base is much more pleasant but the tomato, cheese et al doesn't stick to it and it just slides off! That recipe uses strong bread flour. Considering going half and half on plain white and strong bread flour to see if I can find a good equilibrium!

I used this recipe for myself and two daughters (6 and 5) to do because it was basic, easy and I like them to learn about the food they eat etc. However, it turned out really tasty and has now become a low cost regular meal. Brilliant.

Made this last night!! It was awesome, so easy, and really took no time at all!!! ended up making 3 pizzas with different toppings, chickent tikka and bacon and pepper. Als omade my own tomato paste! What a treat. I might make it again tonight :-) Officially my favourite pizza base recipe. So light too!(oh i didnt have white plain flour, so i used white self raising flour. made no difference!) Hubby loved the pizzas!
