  1. Heat the oil in a pan, throw in the onion and cook for a couple of minutes. Stir in the garlic, tomatoes, chilli and sugar. Season with salt and pepper and bring to the boil. Give it a good stir, then reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, bring a large pan of salted water to the boil. Add the pasta and cook according to packet instructions. Flake the tuna into the sauce and heat through. Drain the pasta, return to the pan and stir in the sauce and basil leaves if you have any. Serve with a generous grinding of pepper.

Easy, yummy recipe like my mother used to make, but I'll use less pasta and more tuna and tomato next time. Also, was out of chillis so used 1/4 tsp tabasco sauce instead, worked great!

perfect for those old mother hubbard scenarios! agree let the sauce simmer a while. I used a whole fresh chilli and was just right. Was worried lack of ingredients might make it bland but not at all.

Just made this for lunch as my cupboards are fairly bare (shopping day) but these are all things I have hanging around. It was very easy and really tasty! You can make it lunch or dinner sized by varying the amount of pasta you use. I'll be making this again!

My Italian friend's mum taught me this recipe 20 years ago, she added black pepper, some tomato purée and simmer for 20 mins, she also added some Parmesan cheese on top.

A nice simple recipe that can be made quickly when your kids are screaming for something tasty and filling! My 4 and a half year old is majorly fussy and ate this without any questions asked. I chopped my onion as finely as possible and used garlic infused rapeseed oil for frying and passata instead of chopped tomatoes so no 'bits'. My son isn't a spice fan so no chilli but I would definitely add it for me to jazz it up. Hardly culinary genius but still tasty!

I used fresh chopped chilli and it was delicious. Also, 500g of pasta is way too much. 350g made plenty for 4 portions.
