  1. Heat the oil in a pan, throw in the onion and cook for a couple of minutes. Stir in the garlic, tomatoes, chilli and sugar. Season with salt and pepper and bring to the boil. Give it a good stir, then reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, bring a large pan of salted water to the boil. Add the pasta and cook according to packet instructions. Flake the tuna into the sauce and heat through. Drain the pasta, return to the pan and stir in the sauce and basil leaves if you have any. Serve with a generous grinding of pepper.

Lovely blend of flavours but this was too much pasta and not enough tuna and tomato (which would make it healthier, along with skipping the sugar).

I often make this with a cheese and tomato sauce. For a treat, a topping of crunched up crisps and grated cheese stuck under the grill for a couple of minutes is fantastic. I'll try sticking the garlic in next time, haven't tried that. Thanks!

It was absolutely gorgeous! It was really easy to make and I will definately be making it again.. I think that i will add some olives and some moserella next time - i think that would just finish off the bursts of flavour1

just had this dish 4 dinner, simple and tasty. At the end of stage one i blended the ingredients, as my son hates bits...worked well. I used hot chilli powder, it was quite spicy 4 my 3 yr old, so i quickly stired in more cheese, he ate the lot! I also used only 1tbsp of oil, and didnt use basil as didnt have any in. would work well with a rocket or tomatoe&onion salad. I will be having this dish again

this was much nicer than i thought it would be. i don't normally touch tuna but will start having this more. I melted mozzerella cheese into it, but it didn't really need it, the sugar gives it that little bit of sweetness & tastes lovely with it!!

Just made this for the family, added extra chilli, some italian cheese and two peppers and it was a big hit. Will definitely do it again. Quick, easy, cheap and very very tasty - you can't ask for more than that to feed a hungry family.

if you let the sauce simmer at a lower heat and for about 20 min it's muh thicker and not as watery.

lovely stuff! I had barely any food in and needed something nice and quick to eat, this was perfect. Nice to see a storecupboard ingredient recipe that actually uses normal storecupboard ingredients like tuna and a tin of toms. Might put in more veggies next time, if I've got any!
