To finish

  • 3 tbsp orange juice
  • 50g golden caster sugar
  • 50g dark chocolate

Method

  1. Heat oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4. Butter and line the base of a 1.2-litre loaf tin. Put all the cake ingredients into a bowl and beat with a hand whisk or wooden spoon for 3-5 mins, until light and fluffy. Spoon the mix into the tin and level the top.

  2. Bake for 40-50 mins, until golden brown and firm to the touch. Meanwhile, heat the orange juice and sugar gently in a small pan, stirring until dissolved. When the cake is cooked, remove it from the oven and spoon over the orange mix. Leave to cool in the tin, then remove and cool completely on a wire rack.

  3. Break up the chocolate and melt over a pan of simmering water or in the microwave on Medium for 1-2 mins. Drizzle over the cake and leave to set.

Baked mine in the loaf tin and the cake came out like the picture. Taste: Yummy! I used rind of 2 navel oranges, reduce sugar to 180g. I baked it one day ahead of the party so that I need not rush. I like more chocolate on the cake so I use 100g of dark chocolate with 50g of sugar for the drizzle. Result: It is all snapped up at the party, gone within the hour!

Mine is in the oven and it looks amazing! The house smells so good I have had to open the windows....just to make the neighbours jealous!!!! Going to try it with limes next time.....chocolate and limes. One of my fave combinations!

Made this cake over and over again, really big hit with the family! Poked the cake allover with a toothpick and instead of pouring the orange juice syrup on top warmed some marmalade and poured that instead. Brushed with 3 or 4 layers of melted dark chocolate. YUMM!!!

Simple, easy to make and tasty. It is perfect for tea time. I used the zest of 2 oranges, and 100g dark chocolate for the topping. I would definitely make this one again.
