  I made this because I wanted to make a gluten free chocolate cake as a Christmas gift and have found all the recipes uninspiring. I substituted the choc chip cookies for gluten free ones and omitted the cherries and kirsch because I thought it might put kids off. It's just chilling nicely in the fridge now and the mixture tastes absolutely delicious! Really simple to make. I pre-cooled the biscuit base just in case it made the mixture go sloppy - I find that happens with cream and warm things! (I'm not gonna bother with the collar because I can imagine it will go wrong, and where I am chocolate is very expensive and I can't afford to mess it up!)

  I made this for a family party on New Year's Day and it looked exactly like the picture and tasted delicious! I added extra cherries too as they were so tasty soaked in the cherry brandy. Yum!

  I made this for a New Years Day party and it was amazing. The chocolate collar worked wonderfully and the cake attracted many positive comments, including for the taste!. Easy to make and I will definitely be doing it again.

  I made this recipe for a lunch party on 30 December. First thing I would say was to base line your cake tin with silicone paper before putting in the base and to line the sides before adding the cheesecake mixture. Despite a non stick springform cake tin the base was difficult to remove. However apart from that the recipe was easy to make and the collar surprisingly simple to do. I added more cherries than recommended and all the guests complimented me on it. Absolutely yummy!

  WOW! Made it twice now and both times it has gone down a storm. Easy to make, full of flavour and looks fab. I left out the Kirsh and used a tin of cherries in syrup instead to suit my taste. Have a go...you won't be disapointed.

  Disappointing but I think I know what went wrong. I beat the Marscapone with an electric whisk rather than by hand, thinking I'd save some elbow grease. Unfortunately this resulted in the cheese becoming a slightly strange almost grainy, curdled texture which meant the cheesecake itself was really quite nasty and tasted greasy (although my husband said he enjoyed it.) I think the plain and milk chocolate combo worked quite well even though I usually prefer dark - the addition of milk gave some pleasant sweetness. I might try this again with cream cheese rather than marscapone for some extra tang. The syrup drizzled on the top would be better if it was thicker - I'd be tempted to boil it with some arrowroot as in other blackforest recipes. Twenty cherries is nowhere near enough.

  I made this for Christmas last year and I'm making it again this year on demand! Was definitely a favourite with family & friends, what compliments! I didn't make the collar, I just melted the chocolate and cut triangles to stick up from each portion. Yum yum yum, cannot wait to make it this year!!
