Put the butter, sugar, condensed milk, caramel and ginger in a pan. Heat gently until the butter melts – make sure you don’t boil the sauce. Remove from the heat, then stir in the whisky until smooth. Pour into sterilised jars and allow to cool before sealing.

this was so easy to make and I had a sneaky taste before putting it in the jar… OMG it's gorgeous! I used rum rather than whisky and salted butter

Very easy to make. Extreeeeeeeeeeeeeemely rich, I wouldn't be able to eat it with Christmas pud or the like, but served with plain ole' vanilla ice cream? Would round off a meal really rather nicely. It goes rather thick when cooled, you could practically spread it on toast as an extra naughty treat!

I'd love to make this for my dad for Christmas but was also wondering how long it would store for and how. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds great, was wondering if anyone knows how long it can be stored for and is it ok out of the fridge? Thanks.

Made this to go in my Christmas hampers for the family and substituted the whisky for rum.

Absolutely yummy, was a big hit especially with the Christmas pudding.

Will definately be making again.

Hi, how far in advance did you make this? I'm making Christmas hampers too and I wondered how long this could be stored for, thanks.

This sauce is very easy to make and is lovely but a bit too sweet for our taste - maybe I'll cut down on the sugar next time

As in most recipes in Good Food, the nutrition per serving is given. This is only useful if the serving size is also given!

This is so good - and turns out it is food treatment for man flu!
